i remember seeing a dagger in an ad, somewhere. i would really like to find out what it was.

i know this is practically NOTHING to go on, but:

it looked tactical in a modern way. i looked like it had a full tang construction with synthetic handle scales. it was black coated. it had "sharp lines", if that make sense, wasn't "roundy" like an Applegate/Fairbairn, more jagged/wicked looking.

anybody have any idea what knife i'm talking about?

it wasn't some $15 fantasy blade, it looked like a usable piece of equipment with a touch of sinister flare.

no, it's none of these. although that link to the zero tolerance did get saved, that's a good looking knife.

you could see the tang on this one, unlike the zero tolerance.

i know it wasn't Merc Works, but it reminded me their styling, a little.

i know this is quite vague and i really appreciate the efforts you already made. i just really wish i could identify this blade becuase it was the sweetest production dagger i've seen.

ETA - the construction was similiar to the EK, but it had more of a sharp almost demonic appearance.

and it wasn't a mainstream brand like SOG or Gerber

Here are a few to consider.
imo you could be looking at a tops knife

Pro-Tech Knives, Walter Brend EDC (Elite Combat Dagger)

Blackhawk's, UK-SFK (United Kingdom Special Forces Knife)

You might want to look at a Fallkniven Garm. They come with a non-reflective Teflon coating on top of a VG-10 blade, and a Zytel sheath designed to be worn on the neck

No disrespect to anyone, but aren't all daggers 'tactical' by design? I understand many are ceremonial, but the design itself, imo, lends itself to 'tactical' use by definition vs. purely utility use.

"Roundy" means comfortable in the hand, no sharp corners to jab you in unexpected places and easy to carry. It also doesn't have to be black to be "tactical", but it can be if that is what you need.

This is our Silent Partner. Fills the bill for tactical dagger.

When the OP describes the knife as having a "demonic appearance," for some reason I think of MOD knives. Didn't they used to make a fixed-blade dagger matching this description?

I think MOD made two different ones, but you're right -- claws for a crossguard? The only MOD dagger I can find now is the Beshara, which doesn't come close to his description.

Ha! Edit to add: I remembered the name, Mod Mark VI

It could have been a cheap winchester boot knife, or a smith and wesson riot knife, or colt commander.
