tactical/edc folding knife for around $200

These are a little over your budget, but they’re not bringing much on the secondary right now

"Tactical"-EDC . . .and a folder?

I would say that about anything with a point and an edge that you find comfortable to carry (EDC) and is easy for you to deploy would do.

At the upper end would be a Cuda Maxx, except they are discontinued and~$500.
Cold Steel has their Ti-Lite in several sizes and handles.

After Them, I'd say that about any largish folder that deploys well for you would do.

My EDC is not necessarily for serious tactical use. It is a Leatherman Wave.

I have a small inkosi tanto in magnacut which is very versatile + several other knives. I wanted a crkt cause I thought it's cheap and it has a tanto blade (great for tactical use).. but then I saw the price. $140 for an assisted d2 made in china? no thanks

By the way my considerations for a tactical folder.

And by that I mean a knife for stabbing people would be.

Easy to get out.
Easy to put back.
A lock that isn't going to fold.
A handle that that you can hang on to.
Left handed.

Otherwise I like the idea of defensive wharncliffes I think they do some cool things. They slash a bit better. And they do this weird slash thing when you stab with them.

And then that good utility wharncliffe shape means seatbelts and cords, clothing and stuff like that is also manageable.

As far as dark goes. Mabye being able to tell where the knife ends in your hands stop you cutting yourself?

I don't know.

And that elementum gives out the Yojimbo vibe. Without the Yojimbo price tag.

So in Australia the Amerite will go for $160 in a green and black.

Where the sexy blacked out yojimbo is $350.
That's a great knife. But 350 is way too much for me. I'd get the m16 anyday, if it wasn't $140...

"use"? I'm not gonna stab somebody, it's just the looks that catch my eyes. I like to play with knives and just stare at them and enjoy the craftsmanship. Most of my knives I don't use at all. The m16 sure looks awesome, but the specs and the price don't meet..

I had a para 3 in s45vn. I lost it hiking. It fell out of my hands, on concrete, and the tip of the blade broke, which is likely to happen with any blade steel if you drop it on concrete.

An M16-something was left behind by the previous owner of my car. It has gome missing, I assume stolen. I don’t miss it. An M21 a few years was stolen by a relative. I don’t miss it either. There are not too many knives that will engender that kind of indifference. By way of contrast, I still really miss the Opinel 6 that went waklbout last year.

The PM3 with S45VN & camo handle pretty much fits your criteria, unless you're set on those steels you mentioned. Honestly the S45VN steel would hold it's own to them & then some.

S45 is great stuff (very similar to Elmax) S35 is supposedly a little tougher at the trade off of a tiny bit of edge retention… I really can’t tell a difference, but I like both steels a LOT, and they’re definitely tougher than a lot of other stainless steels, without giving up a ton of edge retention

I really like what Case did with their S35VN. I have a one of them & it's out-performed my PM3 in S45VN on more days than one at work. S35VN gets a bad wrap IMO, just because S45 came out so much sooner than the next "super steel" usually does.

Having owned more than one of these, I would stay away from the CRKT M16 if it’s craftsmanship you like.

That's Australian.

Basically cut that in half.

(I had a look. About $80)

I settled on the civivi vision over the amarite. And it is a really nice tactical folder vibe knife with an excellent utility function.

And on bearings so flicks in and out really nicely.

And this is super fun. The way the lock works you don't really change grip from pulling it out to flicking it open. So if you practised(which I obviously didn't) that thing could come out reall fast and really secure.

The fidget factor.

Yep. I have one that I bought many years ago when I was just starting out in my knife journey. After getting it, I never really liked it, and it has sat in a junk drawer forever.

IMO, the ergonomics suck, the blade shape is next to useless, and the fit, finish and materials are sub par.

Honestly, it’s a POS.

But how do you really feel! 😂

To the OP, I think you need a ZT0801BW. It's a nearly perfect knife!

If I haven't mentioned it before in this thread, the Gayle Bradley 2 is a fantastic knife.

I couldn’t agree more, with all of that.
