This is the china version of the scharade old timer 152ot.
I paid $20 or so for it, I read the argument made that this knife could be made tactical with some basket weave on the grip, what do you think?

this is the original configuration of the knife.

In this pic you can see the cord wrapped handle, please be nice this is my first attempt at wrapping and I have carpal tunnel in both hands!

those old grips that came off the 152 are almost hollow, I am not sure but I think the prechina knives had solid grips!

Very tactical, that knife says "take no prisoners".

I have since redone the wrap on the grip with the atwood style and it looks much better, will post pics soon!

...what exactly does it mean when you make something "tactical".

im sorry if this comes off in the wrong way but i just finished watching some nutnfancy reviews and it really bothers me when he starts throwing the word around...

i think its all in the application of a given tool, knife or otherwise.

anyway, i meant no harm!

the wrap looks pretty sweet!
...know that i think about nutnfancy...that thing duracoated in coyote brown with that black wrap would look REALLY good i think.

No harm taken,
when the term tactical looking is used, or atleast when I use it is this:
the diffrence between a stainless pump shotgun vs a solid black shotgun, to me the black shotgun looks more tactical or the diffrence between a solid or 2 tone pickup truck vs a camo truck, yes I know the old timer 152ot is not a tactical knife, it is a small or medium game skinning knife, but ya got to admit, most gobblins will be less apt to mess with you if you are holding my tactical looking knife verses a butter knife, right? honestly it's all a personal thing! what else should be done to a china made knife? lol

tactical is just the pc way of saying its meant to be used against other people, thats all.

I don't get how doing a cord wrap makes it more "tactical" or effective against other people. I like nutnfancy's reviews and videos, but I'm sick of the word tactical being overused for knives that are not for defensive/offensive use.

I to am a fan of nuthinfancy, and he can dress some of his reviews in a manner that may seem to take items out of context, but his reviews can also make you think of other uses for items other than their intended purpose, but let's go ahead and snuff this ? out,

the knife in orignal form was 1 1\4 inchs thick at it's thickest point of the grip, now it is way thinner with the wrap, around 5\8 of an inch, so thats an improvement, the steel is 1095, which is steel that is used in some higher quality para military blades, look at the blade, it has a deep belly, very good for slashing, the point is very good for stabbing, the size of the overall knife is a nice size for hiding just about anywhere, now as I stated before, I know the origin and purpose of the design of the old timer 152ot, it is for skinning small to medium game, but trust me, if you were being beaten by 6 or 7 guys and this blade is the only knife\weapon that you had on you, it would become
a defensive/offensive weapon in a hurry, or does it have to be made for a exact purpose, cost a certain amount or even have a certain name for a knife to have a tactical look? thats all I was trying to get at, it does look more tactical than the original form!

here is a link by fred perrin that may explain what I am trying to say better:

Of course almost any knife can be used as a weapon, but it doesn't mean it is a tactical knife just because it can be used as one.

IMO "tactical knives" are pure fighters for example double edged daggers, hawk bills, and kerambits.

Cool wrap on it though, good job.

I thought the new China 152OT was stainless. Where did you find one in 1095 for $20?

it's brother the Uncle Henry Wolferine is 440 stainless, the sharpfinger is 1095 Carbon Steel or atleast thats what I have read.

lol, I guess it all depends on the crowd thats around, jk thats a nice looking customized piece, I would prolly hurt myself more than the gobblin with a dubl edged knife, I would go to close it and forget about the top edge and &$$#$#*(^ that hurt! thanks for the looksee at your blade.
