Hello,
My new to the Forum, and I 'm looking to purchase my first Combat/Tactical Fixed blade. I want some thing heavy duty with a 5-7" blade any ideas? I want to pair it up with my Springfield XD .45 handgun.

Whats your price range? What style of knife? What do you consider tactical?

Answer these and you will find what you seek.;)

RedEdge,
I have owned a Kabar, and several US Air Force Survival knives, but I'm looking for something nicer. Price range $100 to $300. I have no problem spending less money, I just want something strong and something to be proud to own.

For two different but good solutions, see the Becker line by Camillus, and the Chris Reeve fixed blades.

Busse and Strider are also very good but many of them go up and over the top on price.

Check the "KNIFEMAKERS FOR SALE FORUM." There are many excellent quality custom knives being sold there at reasonable prices.

I bougt a nice tactical from knifemaker Gerry Drew recently for about $160.

Swamp rat and Busse are 2 i would look at it in that price range or Ranger knives as well:thumbup:

I should have also mentioned fehrman knives where you can get the "First Strike" or "Last Chance" made out of high quality CPM-3V steel.
Be prepared to wait about a month after ordering. I have both and am most happy with the plain satin finish. About $350 to $400 with sheaths.

Thanks that Fehrman First Strike - Survival Series is very cool too! So want about Busse or Swamp rat in the same size as Fehrman and Reeves?

Maybe extreem ratio too. I also think that trident makes some good looking knives, but don't know too much about them. -Same for mecr worx. Worth looking into if you got the loot for them though.

Busse Satin Jack Tac.

There might be some availible here:

www.bussecompanystore.com

They are very sweet knives, and IMHO, feel way better in the hand than the Green Beret, thought neither of them are uncomfortable, the SJT takes the cake for awesomness.

I've recently seen a Ranger RD6 in satin finish and cocobolo scales that was too sweet...I'd opt to have it done in 3/16" rather than the usual 1/4".

100-300 is a pretty wide range. I had an entrek cobra for a while that was a really nice knife. I sharpened the false edge and it was one heck of a little knife for 100.00. Are you planning on ever carrying it or using it or just for pictures? An emerson fixed blade karambit might be a nice knife, or something along the lines of a mercworx seraphym. That's if you're looking for something to carry for defense and not looking for something more utilitarian.

beefangusbeef, if you like the Seraphym, check out the Benchmade CBK. Very similar, slightly smaller, MUCH cheaper, you may want to wrap the handle.

I really like the style of the Benchmade Nimravus.

Priced towards the lower end of your range too.

The Nimravus is a classic, for good reason. It is a bit lighter than many of the others mentioned.

Swamp Rat is an awesome bargain, like Becker. Prices are very reasonable for such strong, sharp knives. The Becker handles are a bit large for some people (perfect for me!!) but Swamp Rat's Resiprene handle is a great grip, even in hot, wet conditions, and its durability is outstanding.

Heh, you just wanted to gloat that you have a Springfield XD .45 handgun! :D Heehee! (Nice choice!)

Before I go on to read the rest of the responses, I would say that I like the Benchmade Nimravus, or Nimravus Cub (I have only the latter, in drop point, not tanto). The Nimravus pictured above comes with a decent sheath (although that thumb lock doesn't do much, at least not on my 100SH20), but the Cub I have came with a different sheath and it's got a snap release around the handle. The knife has a great shape, though.

I also like the various offerings from Becker Knife & Tool -- I have the Combat Utility 7. It's a monster of a knife.

Once again, though, like the Nimravus Cub it has a snap sheath, so it's not like it's a "quick-draw tactical" unless you get some other sheath for it.

Now I'm going to check out what others have recommended... :)
