I believe the Emerson CQC-12 fits the bill

They run below $300 and have the wave which opens then as soon as they are drawn from your pocket. Titanium frame lock, the G-10 handle side is very grippy, and it has a great blade-to-handle ratio.

I would also suggest quality over quantity. I sold/traded off my mass collection for a few quality knives and I'm happy as a clam :D

In my opinion, autos are a little gimmicky. Assisted openers are good, but there are many manual knives which are even faster than most autos and assisted openers and far more reliable since they have less components such as springs and elaborate locking systems etc. And they are far easier to explain as Utility knives as opposed to weapons (if you were ever to have to explain yourself to a police officer)
If you are looking for a good SD blade for the money, I carry the Cold Steel Ti-Lite with xytel handle, 4" blade weighing in at 4 ounces. And belive me, this is a NICE knife. I purchased it for $65 Canadian, so it is relatively easy to attain. Made with high quality AUS 8 steel, it looks like a classic 1950's switchblade, but its tougher and it opens FAST. it is even built with a little quillion at the base of the blade in its closed position which you can snag on your pocket as you pull it out causing it to be open in your hand by the time you position yourself.
I would say the only problem with this blade it that its a dagger-design. ie, a stabbing blade. So unless thats a problem to you, a great EDC.
