I'm not much of a folder guy, but I reckon having one or two tactical folders wouldn't hurt.

My question is : If I'm getting myself a TF (custom - handmade - factory - doesn't matter), what would you suggest me to get ?

Since I'm getting one, price would not be a constraint then.

Thanks in advance guys.

I recommend the BM 806. It's an excellent tactical folder. Grip is excellent, 3.96 inch blade length, axis lock, I love it.

Saying "I'm getting a tactical folder" is no precise than saying that "I'm getting a pocket knife." You need to say if you want a larger knife, smaller knife. Do you like thick, stout knives, or thin, light knives. Are autos a legal option for you? Do you like serrations. Do you want a tip up or tip down pocket clip? Do you want a clip at all? Do you want a tanto blade, spearpoint, drop point, clip point etc. How about blade grind, hollow, flat, convex etc.
Finally are you into blade steel varieties? The more you can state, the more you can dismiss knives that are totally wrong for you.

Size does not matter, but I don't like auto. I like a stout knife for a tactical, pssibly with a clip. Carry option does not matter to me.

Someone has to say it, so I might as well be the first.... How about a Sebenza?

Or if you want something REALLY stout a Strider?

I'm going to go out on a limb and offer some good suggestions from my experience and my, personal and humble opinions of buying and carrying TKs for 10 years. However, there are much smarter people among us.

(I don't mean to sound like I'm treating you like a rookie! You DO have more than 500 posts. But you didn't give us much to go on, so I'm just going to ramble on because I don't know what your level of knife-knowledge is.)

First: I, personally, think that Benchmade gives you the best knife (possibly life-long) for your money. They're also darn good looking knives.

Second: Spyderco. They CAN (and often ARE) be considered ugly, but, no doubt, are functional. Spyderco has always put function before fashion.

Third: Emerson makes a darn good product, but I feel (as do some others) that they're over-priced. IMHO they're only marganially stronger than Benchmade and not quite as good in quality of craftsmanship. Their flagship, the Commander (a good TF knife) goes for $160 at online stores but a comparable Benchmade (Axis AFCK) goes for $120 at the online stores (you can get better deals on all on the forums). Given that perspective...
I never buy Emersons and always buy Benchmades.
HOWEVER, if you can get a deal on an Emerson on the forums (as you often can) for around $100 for a Commander or $80 for a Raven, Specwar, Mach-1, or any of the others then you definately ARE getting a good knife. I don't HATE Emerson, I just hate paying new-knife prices for them from dealers.

So in other words:
Benchmade first.
Spyderco second if you can stand the uglyness.;)
Emerson third if you can get a bargain ($80-$100) on the forums and don't mind a little "rough" craftsmanship for a really hard worker.

NOW, all the knives above are in the $100 range and will serve you well working them hard all the time for 5 years or more.

On the other hand, you don't have to spend $100
There are other supposedly "low-end" knives for under $50-$60.

In my opinion, the leader right now is Kershaw. The Ken Onion series is unbelievably cool and they're ALL darn good knives. Many people on these forums collect the Kershaw Onions. I have a couple myself. Kershaw makes a GREAT product for the price.

CRKT has always been popular and has been off and on as far as what you get for the money. Lately they've been ON and they have a WIDE array of knives that almost anyone can find something they like.

There's one more personal favorite I want to mention.
Timberline knives are under-rated.
Timberline has a line of two sizes of knives called the WORTAC that are an exceptional knife for the money and ALWAYS get good reviews. I have a large one and I'd never part with it.

Good luck. Let us know what you end up getting.

Al Mar SERE for a production knife, Bm, Emerson, don't touch it. IF going custom Mr. Blackwoods stuff is awesome. IMO

I do have 2 small Sebenza, but IMHO, they don't really gave that tactical look.

Great suggestions guys, keep 'em coming.

If you prefer an Axis lock= Benchmade 710 (large) or 722 (small).

Lockback= Spyderco Police (large) or Native II (small).

Liner-lock= Spyderco Military (large) or Gerber Air Ranger (small).

And for very light weight yet large enough= Spyderco Endura (large) or Delica (small).

Good luck,
Allen.

If you want big and stout, try one of the Extrema Ratio folders. I don't have one, but got to handle a few and they're built like tanks.

Titanium framelock Commander.

This would be the answer to ultimate fighter, or maybe someone can build you a Ti frame lock Super SOGCK, or QCQ-10 (all waved emersons).

Regular production emersons have the best ergonomics, and are the fastest deploying knives around, but they are a little over priced and mechanically they are not as good as some other production knives. As far as production knives are concerned Benchmade, Al Mar, and Spyderco make great products, but for my money Mictrotech is king.

I would probably get the Strider AR, but you should look into customs since you dont have a price limit. The problem with the Blackwood is going to be getting one, Neil isnt taking orders at the moment.

Here's your new tactical folder!

RJ Martin defines SHARP with a sharp looking, affordable entry-level folder that has a ROCK SOLID lockup with heavy weight liners and locking bar. Great feel, great grip and excellently fast opening Larry Chew-style thumb studs.

Sweet.

Damn, gotta love that recurve!

Another great custom tactical folder would be the Kasper/Crawford Perfigo..

When it comes to production tactical folders, I'd say BM AFCK.

That looks very interesting, but I can't find another online anywhere including their site.

I'd like to check out more info on it just out of curiosity at least. Where can I look? How did YOU find it?
