tactical folder

Oh jeez...

There are so many good ones, you just have to find the one you like the best. My favorite HD folder that has just above a 4" blade is the Benchmade Rukus.

The Spyderco Military is a really good one too.

depends on how much you want to spend.

spyderco makes many tough folders, the military, police series, and endura immediately come to mind.

benchmade, zero tolerance, kershaw, and many other brands also make great folders.

then there are the custom and semi-custom makers.

it is impossible to say which is the best. you need to find the one (or many) that suits your needs and price point.

one that I like is the lone wolf t2 but its no longer made.

any like it?

It's okay. But it's a tip down carry only and a liner lock which are things I tend to stray away from on larger folders (not counting the Military). I think you can find better options out there for just a little bit more $.

cold steel makes some big tactical knives too

cold steel scimitar
cold steel ak47
cold steel voyager bowie 4 inch
cold steel ti-lite

What is the best heavy-duty tactical folding knife available?

With a blade around 4"...

More info please - "best" will mean different things to different people
What will your main uses be? - this will determine blade and handle materials and shape
Do you want an assisted opener?
What is your preferred method of carry?
And - how much are you willing to spend?

Really need a price point you're looking at in order to give you an accurate list of options.

How about some additional parameters the options are so many, try and list a few more parameters. Price, lock type, handle material, plain edge, serrated edge, partially serated edge, blade shape, steel, etc, etc, etc. People want to help you but you have posed a very open ended question, as there are just so many options available.

How about Zero Tolerance?

Specifically the ZT0300, 301, etc. This is on the top of my list to buy. Will also get the ZT0200 and the ZT0350 when it comes out.

I have no first hand experience with them, just throwing it out there. They were recommended to me when I asked the same question.

The 300's are SpeedSafe AO w/ thick & wide S30V blades, framelocks w/ 3d machined G10 on one side and titanium on the other, Hinderer Lock Bar Stabilizer, DLC coated and 3/8". hex head pivot shaft nut. Basically a Kershaw, Ken Onion and Strider design collaboration. It is HOT!!! (imho)

Tactical..lol..I love that term.

As a police officer, I suppose my pocket knife uses are as tactical as it gets. I carry a Spyderco Endura and Delica in strong and weak side pockets, respectively, and a KaBar TDI on my belt. Only one is intended for defensive uses, and it aint one of the folders.

I like the Spyderco Military, but your mileage may vary. It depends on what you need the knife to do.

Can you please describe in detail what sort of "tactical" applications you do on a daily basis? :p

Some knives come to mind.

Spyderco Military - Just about the best and most versitile folder ever made.

ZT 300 - The brick knife that is bascially a folding sharpened prybar. But this prybar is made out of S30V with a frame lock, so I guess it also counts as a knife. :D

Strider SMF - Over priced sharpened pry bar. Compare it to the ZT 300. And add about $200.

It really depends on how much you want to spend. You can get some nice 4" CRKT's for under $100. They're not excellent, but they're pretty nice. Good solid knives with some middle of the road blade steel. Honestly the F&F of CRKT (at least for me) has always been excellent. The steel could be a lot better, but it does keep the price down.

Even though I don't own one.... Sebenza ;)

When I think tactical folders, the first thing that comes to mind is this...

Emerson CQC7b

The Super CQC7 is closer to your 4" range. Looks just like the knife above, just bigger.
