Tactical Folder

The ZT400 does look interesting, and it is one that I had not considered. Anyone have experience with one of these? Keep the ideas coming.

I got one. At 5.1 oz wet, it's a pretty good all around useful knife, and I like how useful the interesting blade shape is. It is also a breeze to EDC.

The 0400 seems to be the overlooked model of the line. It's solid (as expected) and the blade is very stout. The blade shape is a bit funky (and too thick) for my tastes. I gave one to my Brother. He uses it for everything. It especially excels for breaking down boxes. It's too thick to be a great slicer, but makes up for that with blade strength.

The general parameters are 3-4" and $100-$200. I am looking for something different from the more traditional designs such as Military, BM740, G10 Police, Endura 4 Wave. These are great knives, but all have the same general design. I would like to hear about unusual blade designs, something to give the rotation a bit more variety. For example, I recently got a Spyderco Chinook III, a great knife with an unusual design. I have looked at the P'Kal, but I am not sure I'm comfortable with the reverse grip that it requires. I am hoping that you can supply some designs I am not already familiar with. Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.

I just bought a RUI folder from ebay.
This is not a 100-200$ knife, but more about 25$ :)
Normally I don't buy knives in that price range but I liked the look and figured out for the price I couldn't do much wrong.
Liner lock, flipper, micarta scales and 440(A?) steel titanium coated.
Like I said I don't have any other knives in this price-class but it's very nice finished. No flaws.
And it has a different but functional design

Well, I pulled the trigger. A ZT0400 and a fully serrated Endura 4 w/foliage green scales. Both for under the $200 limit, courtesy of New Graham. I'll post some pics when they get here.
Thanks for the ideas!

Yes, I'm fully aware of Cold Steel opinions on these forums. I subsribe to many myself, however the CS Spartan is my current daily tactical defense knife for real reasons. The blade is large and a wicked slasher/stabber. The handle shape is fantastic and totally secure in any knife defensive grip, and the lock is NOT going to collapse under any real cicumstances. It's rock solid.

Best of all the price is between 50 to 60 bucks online most everywhere.

High quality cutlery? Of course. There's usually a large Sebenza in my back pocket, and an AG Russell featherweight one hand opener some where also for chore work, but in the "highly unlikely" event of having to use a folding knife to defend myself against man or beast it's a nasty piece of gear. The Spartan is A #1 with me.

My two cents

Good choices! Please let us know what you think of them after you've spent some time with each one.

Yes! After what feels like months of waiting (not really), they got here. The Endura was a safe choice, it is hard to go wrong with them, a great knife at a very affordable price. But the ZT0400??? I knew it would be high quality, sure, but I am not usually a fan of tantos, so I was a little concerned that I wouldn't really like it. The concerns are gone now though. As soon as I picked it up and started handling it, it started growing on me. It is a little larger than what I expected from the photos, but this isn't a bad thing. It fills my hand quite comfortably, and both the handle and blade design cause it to nestle right in. The curvature of the handle is comfortable, and the shallow curve cut into the back of the blade makes the perfect place to rest your thumb. The assisted opening works great, a feature that I have always liked, but struggle to find on many full size folders. The blade design has already grown on me as well. All of the different bevels and the recurve edge give it a distinctive and stylish look. Last but not least is the lock. I recently made a statement in another thread, that liner locks just are not a very heavy duty design. I should have bit my tongue. I was reminded of the Military as one example of a heavy duty liner lock, and the one on this ZT is another fine example. It has a nice thick liner that provides a lock-up with no discernible play. I think that this is going to be a knife that gets a lot of pocket time, and will serve well for a long time.

Without a doubt it is under-rated. I convexed mine and brought the edge to life, shaving sharp for sure. It is definitely a thick blade...I took it apart, it would hold a normal clip point blade or other traditional blade designs.

However, it's very pointy, and pointy likes being thick.

I personally think it has the best grip design of any knife I've ever handled. When I carry a non-waved knife for the purpose of self-defense, it is the 0400 (mine is partially serrated to give it some slicing bite).

If it had a "Blur blade" it would be my ideal knife. That being said, if you want a radical bad-arse hardcore sticker, the 0400 is the ticket.

I don't nickname many knives, but I call it the "Batman knife".
