Tactical Folder

You're gonna need to be more specific... Price range, intended use, size, etc...

Intended use - law enforcement edc carry knife
price range - $ 100 - $ 150
blade type - plain clip point

Recon 1 comes to mind if you want a larger knife with a strong lock for cheap.

I can't think of many other clip points so I'll let someone else chime in, im more of a droppoint/spearpoint kinda guy.

My first thought is a Benchmade 943:

Welcome!

Mileage will vary for what your looking for can't go wrong with Emerson CQC13, Zero Tolerance 0200, 0500, Cold Steel Recon 1, Spyderco's Manix 2, Military or Para Military although none of the spydies are clip point and finally, the beast of the east, the master of disaster, the Iatollah of Rock and Rolla....

Whichever one fits your hand, your budget and makes it easier to cut stuff.;)

Optimal, is the quest we are all on, there are many knives like steps on a path that is well traveled, in that quest, let Bladeforums be your guide.

Oh my meds are kickin in....!

So get 2 recon-1s. 1 for backup.

I recommend partially serrated for LEO edc.
You could also get a recon-1 tanto folder to go
with the clip point, tanto edge being good for scraping.

Oh I know it's a little more... and not exactly a clip point.. but the Combative Edge m1 seems like it'd be a good knife for an LEO. Ti framelock and all.

I would look into autos if your in LE. There are a bunch of autos in that range. However I am not an expert thus I will default to them.

Benchmade 710
benchmade710.jpg

Pros:
-4 Inch blade
-G10 Scales
-Axis lock = strong = wicked fast
-Steel lined for strength
Cons:
-Benchmades 40-50 degree grind
-Heavier than most (almost 5 ounces)
-D2 maybe isn't enough but you can get in the n690 or something basically Duratech 20CV.

Spyderco Military
C36GBK_L.jpg

Pros:
-4 inch blade
-Awesome G10 scales (finely checkered)
-Light weight (almost 4 ounces)
-super sharp full flat grind making a needle tip that penetrates well
-Great jimping
-Big handle for gloved hands and impact
-wicked fast
-S30V blade
Cons:
-Not steel lined
-liner lock (albiet super strong not as good as axis or lock back)
-Tip down carry
-Delicate tip

Emerson CQC-8
C8BT_Lg.jpg

Pros
-Great bladeshape with belly, strong tip and good penetration
-4 inch blade
-Titanium liners
-awesome g10 scales
-Deep finger troil makes it impossible for hand to go forward basically
Cons:
-154cm? Maybe not such a great steel value for this price point
-Heavy, 5 ounce blade
-mid spine hollow grind doesn't lend itself to EDC as great as a fullflat
-Relief cut is chiseled

Benchmade 940/941
benchmade940.jpg

Pros
-Super light 3 ounce blade for 3.5 inch blade
-Reverse tanto is a great balance of tip strength, belly, and penetration
-S30V blade
-Strong construction with titanium back spacer and aluminum steel lined handle
-Wicked fast and strong lock
-Slender and easy to carry
Cons
-kinda slick handle vs G10
-Not super ergonomic feeling compared to the rest (slender no deep cutouts for your fingers)
-narrow blade doesn't lend itself to sheering as well as the others listed

There is way way way more than just this.

If weight is an issue I dont think anything beats the Spyderco Military in any flavor. I would also seriously consider the CS Lawman or Recon 1 with their beastly lock and all around hard use capabilities.

i like the spyderco military personally. I have a few emersons and my complaint against their design is that the blade detent in the closed position is not strong enough. In other words, if you run with my emersons in your pocket they will slightly open and slice your pockets (or worse!).

The military is great.
