The HEST folder would be what I would buy.

My vote goes t:
Emerson CQC7
Zero Tolerance, any

I feel like the blade tip on all Spyderco's are to fragile.

Spyderco Military

Pros:
-4 inch blade
-Awesome G10 scales (finely checkered)
-Light weight (almost 4 ounces)
-super sharp full flat grind making a needle tip that penetrates well
-Great jimping
-Big handle for gloved hands and impact
-wicked fast
-S30V blade
Cons:
-Not steel lined (Doesn't have to be, look at the new CS knives)
-liner lock (albiet super strong not as good as axis or lock back) According to who?
-Tip down carry (Whot?)
-Delicate tip (Oh please it's a knife, not a hammer)

If I were you I would think about having 2 knives. 1. For cutting/utility...something cheap so you would get upset if you lost it like a Smith and Wesson MP, or a cheapo of some sort. 2. A knife that wouild be there on your side or pocket when the shit hits the fan, something that wouldnt come out of your pocket until you needed it for self defense like an Emerson CQC-7,CQC-15. I like the Kershaw Blur or a CS Recon, the Spyderco Military is also a good knife.CRKT have a couple durable good-looking knives that also aren't very expensive. If you want somehing rescue oriented try a BLACKHAWK! rescue hook or some other seat belt cutting variant. My dept. doesn't have a knife policy written yet but I think before long it will happen. I have thought about carrying 3 knives:2 folding and a fixed blade, prob. a Ka-Bar TDI, just incase I cannot deploy the folding knife.Kabar shows LEO to place this knife on your inner belt and put your gun belt over top it. The mindset is that you know that it is there and the bad guys dont b/c it will be behind your gun. The price range is good, I wouldnt even think about taking a Strider on patrol.....uhhh I shutter to think what I would do if I lost it,lol.

If you're talking pure utility, it's hard to beat a good multitool like a Leatherman Wave or Charge. If you're talking about a one-bladed folder that might need to be opened quickly and securely for emergencies like cutting seatbelts or something like an emergency back up weapon for defense, then that changes what should be suggested. The Spyderco Military is a great all around knife for all of those tasks.
