"Tactical" Guy Graduating to HI, Thoughts?

Kobras are great all around brush clearers, BUT as you know they don't carry the same warranty as the other khuks and especially the chiruwa khuks. If this is going to be a beater khuk, you might try to talk him into a 20" siru (which is on sale right now;)). Those are beefy, but still light enough to handle lighter stuff. I dunno. Kobras are pretty sweet though:D If he opts for one he might want to ask for a beefier one.

Email Uncle Bill and ask him for a 16.5" chiruwa WWII--problem solved.

I have to agree with munk on the choppers though. An 18" AK will chop far more effectively than a BAS. Still, even a small khukuri will probably chop better than most knives claiming to be choppers.

Yup, gotta agree with that as well. And besides that the khuk will make a great deal better pry bar than even the highest scale expensive high end knife will.
It's just damned hard to beat a khukuri in their range of what's doable and that's a very vast range! :D

I made the mistake of showing him the 25" Kobra.
The crazy fool has his mind set on that one now.
What is it with these Kobras?
Sword envy.

 How's he going to fit 25" on his chest? :D

The over 20"ers don't handle like the shorter khuks.

Get him something to chop with the 25 & a shorter one to learn the diff.

Sounds like a prematurely advanced case of HIKV.

Ah...so I'm not the only one who sees a problem here. :)

Sample conversation:

HIM: "I want a Kobra like that. 25 inches. That's awesome."
ME: "It's completely impractical for most things. Sure, it cuts brush great but it's really not made to do that. It won't split wood. I wouldn't try to drop a tree with it. It's kind of awkward for anything else. You can forget about a chest mount."
HIM: "I want a Kobra like that. 25 inches. That's awesome."
ME: "Did you hear a thing I said?"
HIM: "When I see that, I think, 'weapon.'"
ME: "You expecting a swordfight in the near future?"

Conversations can be difficult sometimes. Doubly so when beer is involved.

I also explained that while 25" Kobras seldom (if ever) show up as specials, WWII's and AK's are present on almost every single one, and Sirupatis are currently on sale. (And are available in 25", no less.) I'm not making much headway. The guy really wants a Kobra now. I shouldn't have showed it to him. That's the second person it grabbed.

It's funny that you mention swords, Dean. After handling my two Napoleons and taking a look at the EK's he's kind of leaning in that direction now. HIKV's going to hit this guy hard when he gets his money saved. I'll try to keep him on the straight and narrow.

Again, thanks all for the advice.

Edit: forgot to mention, this all started with that darned Kumar Karda I got him for Christmas. I knew I should've kept it for myself. ;) They make great gifts but are HIKV plague vectors of the worst sort.

Were he my friend, I would order the 16.5 villager, present it to him, and if he decides he doesn't like it, write him off as a silly goose.

If he does like it, make him reimburse you, and make him promise to take on all the house-keeping chores for two weeks. Then spend the next two weeks being especially messy.

Hide it.

The next time he brings it up
say you've never seen such a thing.
If he insists
suggest it was a beer induced hallucination.

Better yet, show him a 15" siru
and explain that is what you showed him.

Gaslighting is fun :D

HIM: "I want a Kobra like that. 25 inches. That's awesome."

I used to say the same thing. :D

Never did get one though. I had some trouble using the M43 for an extended period of time.
