Tactical knives magazine

I subscribed for a couple years, but suddenly the issues stopped coming. As someone else mentioned, when I inquired about it by e-mail, I got a couple issues in an envelope, but this didn't get my mail delivery on track again.

Since I was not getting them in the mail, I chose not to re-subscribe and now pay retail at Barnes & Noble.

Too bad. I'd rather get it cheaper and in my mail box.

I also had a lot of trouble getting my subscription renewed last year. It is a great magazine but their subscription department needs a jump-start.

I used to read "Tactical Kitchen Knives and Hatchets" but just can't justify the price. Besides I'm not interested in reading about someone making a stew in their kitchen. Cancel the subscription and spend more time on here!

I dont recall the last time I bought TK, or any knife rag for that matter...been several months at least. So many times when I look in the "whats new" section I see stuff that has been out for over a year and was discussed here earlier. Also the "reviews" seem to be pre-written articles in which only the name of the knife is changed, new pics inserted and printed up....of course every knife gets the same glowing reviews. I do remember going to the store the other day and browsing at the newest issue of TK....same old stuff...I wasnt sure if I should laugh or choke when I saw they had the stones to ask 7 dollars for that thing....about 3.50 to much.

Yeah, $7.00 bucks is way too much for this rag in question. I hardly ever get into a knife fight anymore, and it's been months since I've been called upon to take out an enemy sentry. Barnes and Noble is a great place to just read the one article TK may have that appeals to me every month. I think my subscriptions to "Knife World" and "Blade" are a bargain for all the info I get.

What are you other folk's favorite Knife mags?

@Night

I started subscriptions to both Blade and Tactical Knives 3 months ago. Blade started arriving as scheduled and I have not received a TK issue yet. I guess it isn't worth the effort to contact them. I will not continue my subscription with TK. Someone from TK must visit this Forum.

I bought their first issue years ago on the newsstand and subscribed right away. Then they were 4 times a year. Now they are 6 times a year and still worth it. Yes, the articles were written six months before (the August issue shows some guy using his knife for cutting an ice fishing hole or such!) and some of the production stuff is slightly outdated, but still a good read. It was in this magazine I learned that you can sharpen your knife on the top of your car window! One thing I don't like. The magazine comes without a plastic bag to protect it and once a year I get one missing it's cover, or at least badly damaged. I always call the above number, complain, and they send me a new one in an envelope.

I faced this same problem guys...

I went to the local bookstore to pick up the latest copy (I always just used to buy it off the rack) and when I handed it to the lady at the checkout she said "that'll be $7.50" (or something close to that) and I said "You have GOT to be joking, right?"

HOW DO THEY HAVE THE NERVE TO CHARGE SEVEN DOLLARS? For stuff that's already mostly old news (thanks to this place) when I read it? UHHHGH!

I left without the magazine and a big feeling of disgust in the pit of my stomach. I went home and just happened to mention what happened to my wife. She suggested that I look into how much a subscription would be. It turned out to be $19.99 and she convinced me to subscribe. Well, the months went by and no magazines came... and I got madder and madder. I finally sent them a few emails and amazingly, finally got my first issue. I would not be surprized one bit if I didn't get any more issues. Oh well, at least it was a cheap lesson - only $20 down the drain.

I am almost convinced that they just sit on your money until you complain. It just happens too often to be "just be a mixup" in every case. Does anybody subscribe and just get their mags without even having to pester them?

Antdog, where did you send your e-mails to?? Still have it handy?? I am too lazy to do a search right now :D

Hey TBG, don't bother with the e-mail. If you read my post above, you know that I subscribed in November and have yet to receive an issue. I tried the e-mail route and nothing happened. Nada. Not even an automated reply. The best thing to do is to call the phone numbers listed. When I talked to a human, they told me that, in not so many words, that they weren't checking or replying to e-mail. Of course calling didn't solve my problem, but there's still hope.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I like the magazine. I've been a subscriber since '96 and have never missed an issue. Their customer service does stink, but I've lived with it for the past 7 years. My issues sometimes get completely trashed in the mail, but that's the fault of the P.O., not TK. I've emailed them before about some of the trashed issues and they just send me a new copy in the mail without getting a reply to my inquiry (I've never requested a new issue, just showed up in the mail). I don't think it's worth 7 bucks an issue, but I buy it anyway. Always have and probably always will.
