I want tp pick up a small but powerfull torch, something that will be good for general use and searching mainly in urban areas. I really dop not know much about the torches on the market. I do want LED and something that has a decent burn time, not like the 1-2hours you get from a Surefire.

I can get hold of a Led Lenser Hokus Focus Tac light for a really good price and it seems like a decent light.

Is the Led lenser a good option and what other lightes are available that would suit my needs??

Thanks, Nick.

Well, a surefire G2L has an 12 hours run time I think with an 80 lumen output, its also has a decent beam pattern, perfect for night walks.

I personally use a Fenix TK10 right now, 60 lumens is fine for mundan tasks, then I have a serious 225 lumens for telling a guy to STOP!:D
I've used it, and it works.

..nitecore is also a good option. I don't have a fenix.. ..yet. ..both fenix and nitecore have cr123 lights, but the real selling point to me was their single AA cell lights; they have plenty of punch and run off cheap, found everywhere, AA cells.

Lighthound.com, batteryjunction.com, 4sevens.com.. all good sites to buy from. ..if you're really into lights, you can check out candlepowerforum.com -- but they get about as crazy about their lights as Busse knife owners get about their knives..

My fav. light right now is the TK11R2. I picked it up in a package deal with a charger and 2 batts. IT also came with a diffuser tip so it becomes more like a torch for lighting large areas. Check it out.

I HIGHLY recommend the PELICAN LAPD 7060. Its in your budget, its rechargeable, its BRIGHT (OH ITS BRIGHT!) and it has a BOMBPROOF lifetime warranty.

beamshot here, its the one on the far right:

Just had a ph convo with Perksy.
So for the rest of you even though I'm not gunna trade my Surefire in just yet.
We are selling quiet a few Led Lenser P7's
170lumens 120hrs from 4xaaa batts.
The only arguments is Surefire is built for the hard knocks.
As it turns out Nick and I are gunna catch up this Sunday at the local Knife show. ( Queensland custom Brisbane Queensland Australia)

I'm going for the Fenix L2D because I like that it runs on aa batteries, and that I can go right to turbo mode if I ever needed too. It just seems like a great light and it's only about 60 which is important to me since money is really tight right now.

Thanks for all the info guys. I got to take into account what is available around here, I am going to take a look at the Led Lenser P7 and the Surefire G2L, but will keep my eye out for some you guys have recomended.

I have several Fenixes: L1D, L2D, and E01s. I also have two Nitecores, DC-10s I think. The Fenix L1D tailcap switches have proved occasionally unreliable. The twist caps on the Es have never failed me.

The Nitecores are completely reliable (which is why they are our bedside lights), but the piston switch is occasionally confusing.

Ive owned a Led Lenser David 19 for more than a year now, and I think its great. It has a run-time of 6-8 hours with a single AA battery, its bright enough for me, and the most important thing; its small enough so that I actually have it with me when I need to. Im not sure its something that I would call "tactical" though. It does have a tailcap switch, but its not a eye-frying bright, and it does not have any kind of assault bewel -thingy. Its just an excellent flashlight for, well, luminating stuff :)

IMHO if youre looking for a flashlight that will be used a lot, I would not get a CR123 -light. Those batteries can be really expensive (and the ones you can order online for less money, are pretty crappy). Also, a flashlight can be "too" bright. For both utility and "tactical" i.e. self defense purposes, I suppose a 2-mode light might be a good idea. I personally carry the led lenser or a chinese Romisen RC-H3 (single AA too) as a utility light, and keep a 2xCR123 Romisen w. attack bewl in my jacket pocket if I feel like I might need a "tactical" light.

Some pics to clarify:

"Tactical" light, a basic 2xCR123 Romisen (~17 USD), really bright and reliable, not suitable (IMHO) for every-day use though

My personal favourite; Romisen RC-H3, single AA, costs around ~13 USD
