I'm not sure which forum to post under. But I've been looking at tactical pens. I've not seen much in the way of brands on this site but have seen some pictured. I'm sure there are better brands. Just trying to put my feelers out. Be super nice if i could get one with a light, but they look cheap. Thanks for any input

'tactical pens'... they are over-priced, always (imho)...

any pen with a decently thick steel construction will do...
personally, I'm a fan of cross pens, they are known to be excellent writing instruments

this is a cross calais (bonus points for not being 'tactical' or drawing attn)

Can't answer as to the light part, but I carry a Civivi bolt action. Not because I think I need it for SD, but to save my shirt pockets. I tend to fold my arms in a discussion (yes I know what that means and it's likely true) and I have ruined a good many shirts by accidentally clicking the pen with my arm. I don't like pens with tops. So I carry the bolt action style.

It's hard anodized 6061 with a glass breaker point on the end. It functions well and takes a Parker Jotter style refill (Schmidt P 900). I do suggest that you put a fresh refill in it when you get it. The one that came with my pen was terrible and skipped. But the refills are reasonable in price and fresh ones work well. Pen is comfortable to write with. Couldn't say if it works for anything else.

I bought this Boker Plus K.I.D. CAL .50 in February 2014 and I've used it daily at the workplace ever since. I work in a warehouse in Inventory Control. It serves its purpose and I've never had the desire to seek out a different pen. Well, except for the black one that I bought as a backup and haven't needed yet.

I don't consider it a tactical pen. Just a durable and dependable writing instrument that has pulled its weight for the better part of a decade so far. I'll ad a "used" pic when I get to work later this morning.

Obligatory "used" pics. The finish has held up way better than I expected it to.

I use a Nottingham tactical click pen and love it. So much so that I have two. One uses pilot g2 and Parker v7 refills and the other uses Parker g2 style fills.

If you just want a no-nonsense metal ballpoint pen, the zebra f-701 is a great choice for a good price. The refills write reasonably well. My only qualm is they don’t have gel or rollerball refills which I much prefer.

If you do the Fisher Space Pen "hack" to the F-701 (involves popping out and slightly trimming the plastic insert in the tip) you can use any Parker G2 style refill by popping off the plastic butt end. Metal cartridges will require some sort of plug to be glued in there or the clicky mechanism will get stuck inside it. Plastic tube ones will work without the plug. Itoya Aquaroller or Ohto Flash Dry, for example.

Not tactical per se, but I have a stainless steel bolt pen from Bastion that is ridiculously solid. Very thick walled steel but looks like a normal pen.

I've heard of tactical pens before. But never bolt action pens.
From a "tactical perspective" it allows striking with either end, I suppose. I just like the mechanism for the reasons I detailed above.

Seems to be all the rage these days. It's an extremely simple mechanism; makes it both easy to manufacture and reliable in operation. And fun to fiddle with.

This is my routine carry . Because it's relatively cheap , no tears if lost , borrowed , etc . And I DO tend to lose pens frequently .

It's still sturdy enough to be used for SD , although I'm thinking any pen that would pass security would not make a great weapon .

Many purpose built tactical pens LOOK tactical , which kind of defeats the purpose ? You are then carrying a "prepared weapon " .

Better, IMO, to carry a very sturdy pen , that is sold as just a writing tool . Like the F-701 .:thumbsup::thumbsup:
