I'm interested in this knife. I Currently carry an Commander when I'm out, and I carry a Raven B at work and around the house. I was wondering if I would like this Knife. I have no knife shops near me that carry it, so I can't get to see/hold it.. I like the "look" of it. I see at 1sks it is MUCH cheaper than ANY other Emerson knives.. Is there a reason? Do you think I will like it compared to Commander? It is not replacing my Commander, but it is nice to carry a different knife once and a while, and it is large like the Commander.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks,
Matt

The Tactical Persian is not much of an EDC. It is more of a pure bred fighter designed for deep penetration and exceptional slicing. I've owned two and both were extremely sharp both blade and tip.

Really great knife but not as practical as a Commander as an EDC.

Great for self defense.

Honestly that's why I would carry it, was for Self Defense. I use my Raven for work, but when I'm out I carry my Commander for self defense only.... I use a small multi-tool for cutting/utility.

Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate it. You answered my question. :)

Yes, the Persian is designed purely for fighting. I have handled one. They are wicked!

if ya can get a emerson collectors assoc p-tac w/the zero bevel grind blade, i have one and its a lot sharper/neater than a std p-tac, ya can find them for sale sometimes in the $200-300 range, the blades are handground so they are a semi custom and are satin finished.

i carried my ECA P-tac edc for a year or so till i got my specwar CQC8, while mainly a self defense blade, its "ok" for regular stuff too. as all EKI's are mainly designed for SD, i would say the p-tac is as good as a commander for edc, except no wave, which has never bothered me. imho no EKI is great as a utility knife.

Funny, I always found the CQC-8 to be a great utility knife as well as good for self defense.

Another point for the Persian (pun intended) is the point section is so agressively shaped that the blade will easily penetrate deeply through barriers such as heavy clothing making is a great cold weather fighting knife.

I have carried my Persian for well over a year so far and it is my favorite.
I love how it sits in the pocket and how light and fast it is.

I carry a large folder and a small sheeple friendly knife always.
I carry the small blade so I can pull it out and use it for light tasks requiring a knife.
Also so I dont get that run he is a maniac look when I pull out the large folder.

My EDC has been a EKI Persian and a Kershaw Chive and the combo works well for me.

Another advantage of carrying one large and one small is so if you do need your large self defense blade it is sharp and ready to be used.
So far I haven't found many times that the chive wouldn't work for a particular situation but if I do the Persian has always worked great.

Light fast and sharp. I dont carry a Commander because after carrying the Persian the Commander seems blade heavy to me. That is probably because the Persian isn't. The Persian is the longest blade EKI makes right now.

I would bet you would like it especially sense you said it would be for self defense.

why would the P-tac be bad for utility and the '8 be good?? both chisel grind, both about 4", i dont think any EKI is GREAT for utility (ie like a BM 800) though none are BAD as a utility knife imho.

I also like the Tactical Persian though I haven't baught one yet. If Emerson ever comes out with a waved Tactical Persian I'll be getting one!

Got my first Emerson about a week ago and its the persian. Definetly not a utility knife but one hell of a folding fighter. Long very grippable handle and wicked blade. I like it a lot though I would like to see a waved version. The only problem with mine was I had to tighten the pivot pin to eliminate blade play and now it isn't super fast to deploy. If I loosen it to the point that it will deploy rapidly then thre is too much blade play for my tastes.

it should loosen up some with use, try some tuffglide or militec or any good light oil on the pivot, i bet it'll be fine.............
