Tactical vests

BDS has some designs that you can customize to how you want it, drawback is it takes a minute to get it because they build it after you order. HSGI is the way to go for a war belt, though SOE does have a tapering one that I've been looking at.

Mayflower has some interesting rig options to look at and do some pretty innovative stuff.

Can look at Tactical Tailor. There are tons of different chest rigs and plate carrier makers out there. Forget the company, but the plates float and are light weight and the test, independent, stopped multiple .308 shots

For a couple of mags, holster, knife and a few pouches for whatever this is what I use, Hsgi belt, kydex sheath, maxpedition pouch for light, and utility pouch, IMI mag pouch and holster. I attach a rollypolly dump pouch for classes if just a pistol class for a combo class thats when I use a vest with rifle mags, hydration pouch, med pouch and whatever extras I need at the time.

I've gone through several setups, cheaper belts roll with weight on them and cheaper pouches just don't hold up with any real use. So buy once cry once, get the best you can afford.

Nice setup Cricket Dave! Do you need a set of suspenders for the wright on this belt?

No the belt is very comfortable without suspenders and stays in place very well. One thing if ordering it make sure you measure yourself where your going to wear it and over any clothes or belt you wear under it. Don't just go by size figure out where it will come around by the length on the website. The holster you pic is important too, how it attaches, the ones I use have a molle attachment and swap out to a belt paddle or loop with just a allen screw and are very tough.

Here are a couple of pics of the belt on

and a couple of pics of how the magazine pouch attaches the holster works exactly the same way

go with something modular chief... something with "molle" or whatnot that you can change or rearrange with ease. there are so many options out there that it can make your head spin, but from what i've used, have a look at london bridge, paraclete, blackhawk, tag and diamond back. each one has their own advantages and disadvantages. Don't go for cheap or you'll only end up buying another one later. as long as you can adjust everything to your liking and move things around you should be able to come up with something you like. I'm currently running a london bridge set up with pistol, Fallkniven S1 and enough mags and pouches to keep me going while still being "light and fast" good luck

The Blackhawk Omega Cross Draw Vest might be what you are looking for?

I believe that it comes set up as you see here but, it's a molle so you should be able to take off and add anything compatible.

I was just having a conversation about this very sort of a thing today.

That is an awesome rig cricket dave! Several years ago I ordered a "money belt" from El Paso Saddlery. It is an old fashion outfit with the same idea that is behind your belt.

It is a thin leather belt that is folded over, made to carry gold double eagles back in the day. THe wide supple leather spreads the weight of the4 gold, pistol cartridges, handgun, and possibly a knife.

http://www.epsaddlery.com/pc-50-31-1-moneybelt.aspx

Anyhow, it is the most comfortalbe gun belt I have ever worn. Even with all the bullet loops filled with .44 cartridges...with a loaded revolver...and a few essentials in the money pocket...fire kit, first aid kit, etc....it feels good on the hips.

Probably the great grand daddy of the rig cricket dave is showing...but it is still valid as an alternative to people have an exaggerated girth.

Sorry to butt in...just trying to add a bit from out WEST!

Oh yeah I love me some western money belts, I've used those horseback for 30 years. Add a pouch for stuff and your good to go. I don't carry a busse on those belts though a nice damascus bowie takes its place.

"Does anyone know what the most protective (but made of the lightest material) civilian plates are"

Stand alone level IV plates with multi hit capabilities. AMI Mobility(TAC3S) has some of the best out there, not cheap but top of the line never is. Most places will sell to civilians. Its best to call them and talk to their sales folks directly, they need to know who they are selling to. Which ever plates you research find out if they will stop a 556 FMJ round or 556 green tip penetrator round. These two rounds will penetrate a lot of available plates even when they will stop a 762 round. Check out the video on the TAC3S. http://www.armoredmobility.com/products_tac3s.php A low profle carrier with stand alone plates might be what you are looking for. You could still carry your knife and pistol.

BAO has the DBT FAPC and the AW-FAPC low profile carriers. Ask for Rich Lempke, great guy...http://www.bodyarmoroutlet.com/diamondback-fast-attack-plate-carrier-fapc2.html

I am not a fan of carrying a pistol on my chest or in front of plates. If you get shot in the chest not only will you have blunt force trauma but you also risk taking a hit to your pistol. So now you have 2 instant problems instead of one.

Stoneyarder, what a crazy coincidence. I work a half mile from AMI Mobility in Scott's Valley Cali. Huh. Small world

+1 On the HSGI belt. Three rows of MOLLE webbing gives you more height options than other belts that only have top and bottom rows. The neoprene inner liner holds the belt in place on your hips, and the included stiffener panel keeps your pouches/holster from flopping away from your body. It's mid-priced compared to other "battle" belts, and so far is holding up just fine.
