'Tactical' Watches

I'm looking to upgarde from my G-Shock and have been looking at the 'new' breed of tritium lit watches, but am a bit confused. Two brands seem to advertise a lot, Luminox and Tracer (H3). Both trade heavily on the SF/Navy Seals name. Which is better?

Ideally I'd like somthing like a Seiko divers watch (good metal body, saphire glass, rubber strap, not to busy a face and day/date) but with tritium illumination.

Am I asking too much? Any advice or alternatives from any watch freaks much appreciated. Thanks in advance...

As far as I know, both of those brands are actually made in the same factory and many of the watches are very similiar, so i guess the quality should be the same.

Between the Luminox and the Marathon I like the Marathon better. Looks only.
I have the Marathon Pilots watch G series, super bright and accurate to 0.7 sec/day
I haven't had to adjust to atomic clock but once.

Traser makes glowrings and Luminox watches.

Jeez, Tom, if I noticed you had a Black Monster I'd have broken your other arm to get it off you. (Naahhh ... I wouldn't do that ... I'm happy with my big metal G-Shock. :) )

Add-a-comment: I believe Traser is British so you ought to get a decent price on them over there, no?

Neither Traser, the SandYs, nor the Luminox's are very tactical... they look cool, but I don't think any real operators use them... I hear they light up like a beacon under Night Observation Devices...

FWIW i would get a seiko diver over any luminox made, the rolex explorer is nice too but i prefer a GMT or a sub/seadweller myself. i have a seiki diver i got in about '79 and other than having to replace the band 3 times it still works fine, never serviced the thing, dont wear it much anymore since i got a TAG and rolex, but it was my EDC watch for 20+ yrs.

Load of old boll**** about 'real' operators. Just pull yer jacket cuff over it. Its not rocket science. ;) ...oh it is...?

I just want a watch I don't need two hands to use just to tell the time!!

Yep, look like thats the way of things. Sea Dweller for best, Seiko as a beater. Seems they do a good solar powered one now that lasts 10 days when charged up

I bought a Black Monster on the recommendation of the watch folks on this board, and I love it. The luminous markings stay bright for a long time. I wish they were tritium though.
And yeah I wore it to the NJKCA meeting too, Esav. :)

Omega Seamaster Professional. I don't live by the sea, nor am I a professional.

Those Black Monsters are awsome looking watches.

My Seiko Orange monster is the one I wear every day. But my G-Shock DW-6600 or DW-5600E are great watches too.

It's just occured to me that I'm just as big a watch nut as I am a knife nut. I've got several g-shocks, a timex ironman, a nice gold roamer swiss automatic, an Omega Sea Master pro and a Sieko Automatc Diver (the one with the brushed steel bezel, but not a black/orange monster - SKX171K I think). I've had them all for a while and haven't bought a new watch for at least 3 years.

The Omega is obviously the most expensive but for some reason I'm wearing it less and less - maybe because overexposure from the whole Bond thing. Reckon I'll sell it.

I tend to wear the G-shocks when I'm working out or in the bush.

When I go on a trip, and I feel silly taking more than one watch with me, I tend to take the Seiko. To me it is the most attractive of all the watches I own (including the Omega), has a very functional, easy to read dial that glows well at night. You can read the time with one quick glance at any time of the day or night and do the same for elapsed time. Most of my work trips include a little adventure on the side and the Seiko will handle dust, water diving, surfing and sweat with no problems. It is a large watch, and it will chew your wrist until you get the right band and learn to wear it a little loose (Rhino straps are most comfy). It will also occasionally scratch car paint and funiture because of it's size and steel. I also like what Seiko stands for. No nonsense quality, durability, and completely in-house manufacture.

So based on my experience I would get a automatic seiko divers. I've seen some in good working order on the wrists of oil rig workers and such that are 25 years old.
