Tacticlol Knives

Can I ask how the Spyderco Civilian is somehow socially acceptable compared to all of these monstrosities?

The Civilian is an entirely different story. It is a knife that has passed the test of time, proving its utility.

But he said it comes with a card that says "NO" to utility...

Futility is something it has in spades. It's decidedly un-pokey, has no hilt or choil... OK, so it's "slasher only"?

As far as passing the test of time... Has one ever been used successfully? I mean, lived up to it's one intended purpose?

I'm embarrassed for Spyderco.

Knives totally suck for defensive purposes, but this one seems even worse than most.

Let the lambasting of me begin...

Can someone seriously tell me how that Civilian has any "utility" purpose at all? It's just as ugly as the rest of the knives on this thread, borders on "mall ninja" if it has to come with a card telling you it's self-defense only, and did I mention how ugly it is?

I refuse to give Spyderco a pass just because they're Spyderco. And I don't understand people who insist it's okay because a company with a rock solid reputation made it rather than someone like Mantis who have a rep for overly "tacticool" designs.

Knives totally suck for defensive purposes,

Don't want to get prac-tac on this, but my Rajah 1 dropped 2 feet from the table, hit on the butt and the weight of it hitting fulcrumed it (blade first) into my shin and knocked a 1 1/2 inch slice clean to the bone. It was what most people would've gone to get stitched up over but I've had it butterfly bandaged for 5 days and it's healing up nicely now w/o any dressing today.

One good swing from that "folder" would lop an arm off without a doubt in my mind.

Like Ankerson said: Makes a great glovebox knife in his truck.

These discussions are always hilarious, especially when the mall ninjas come out of their parents basements to defend their goofy fighting gimmick nonsense.

Thanks for exposing me to the term "tacticlol" - it will definitely be replacing "tacticool" in my lexicon.

I'm one of those "I'd rather have a big stick or metal pipe than a knife" people, but if I was going to try to defend myself with a knife, it's be a plain old ka-bar or applegate, not this ridiculous tacticlol nonsense.

Great pictures in this thread, keep 'em coming!

I know for a fact that many geffers and grips in hollywood carry the civilian. It's perfect for cutting through rope and electrical cord.

Those last 2 pics almost made me reconsider collecting knives! :barf:

From Spyderco's website:

In the 1990s Spyderco was approached by a specialized branch of U.S. law enforcement about making a knife for their undercover agents. These plain-clothes LEOs found themselves in situations where they often could not carry a firearm but carrying a knife was not a problem. Most had no formal training in self-defense tactics or MBC but as a last resort could use a blade to protect or extricate themselves from a life-threatening situation. This was how the Civilian model came to be.

It's a purpose made design. It's not made for you and me to carry around. It has one purpose. I fail to see how an ugly knife makes it any more "mall ninja" then having a black coated blade.

Hell if we're just going on overall ugliness why don't we throw a couple of Grayman's knives in the mix.

Those Grayman's are big & ugly enough to be a good source for neuvo Smatchets! :D

my gosh! The bloodrayne blade should have never been made!... I will admit i kinda like this knife.

I dont know why. Maybe its just because i had so many amazing kills in the game. And I love the game as well.

I hate to admit it, but I kinda like that in a really cheesy, has absolutely no reason to exist sort of way.

The only thing that would make it any cooler would be if the blade would retract and allow you to trigger that sucker to fly out of your jacket's sleeve!

Okay, someone get ahold of the guys at Mantis or Darkops, get them on this idea immediately! THEN this thread would be over.
