TAD Gear, tremendous rip off?

I unfortunately fall into the category of really liking the look of their stuff, well the packs anyway. As someone said in an earlier thread, its hard to to judge a pack without putting it on but I'm trying to get as educated an opinion as possible.

Most of my googling turned up "They are awesome" and "they are overpriced." I have a few maxpedition packs that I like but i'm looking for something bigger and nicer looking, more standard looking maybe.

I know some people who would scoff at the price of a RAT , so I am trying to be objective when I consider the price. Unless you use a trashbag and zipties as a pack there will always be a cheaper option. a $0.50 box cutter could handle 90% of what I use a knife for during the day but I still carry a nice folder. My use for the bag will be pretty standard but nothing close to hard.

Enough rambling! Anyone have personal experience? Anyone have a good reason for or against it? At this point I'm looking for reasons not to buy it.

Mandatory Justification Part: I can't use search, so I apologize if this has been brought up. Also, there is a reason I'm posting it in this forum and that is taste pure and simple. I'm not a hater but I wouldn't be asking this question on a forum where the knives are made of elk horn with mirror finished blades... just sayin.

Never handled one of used one but they appear to be of good quality and made in the US.

Overpriced is a personal opinion really. For me, something cheaper will do but I know alot of people who LOVE TAD stuff and will settle for nothing less.

TAD has a forum over at Usualsuspects.net and I'm sure you'd get a lot more help over there. I own a couple of little gadgets and accessories from TADGEAR and have been pretty pleased. They're customer service is great and most of their employees have memberships at the USN to help people out.

You'll need to register to view the forum but it's free and worth the time.

I don't have one of their packs. I'm with 'Gunner when it comes to something being "over-priced". If it's worth it to you, who cares?

It wasn't worth it to me, so I bought one that was. Having said that, some say Badlands is over-priced but it was worth it to me, so I have no buyer's remorse.

I DO have a Ranger Hoodie from TAD Gear (picked it up last month) and it's fantastic.

It was nearly over-priced for me, but not over-priced enough. ;)

Their RAID pack is super expensive. If you're looking for that type of bag, take a peek at ATS' RAID pack.

I really want one of their ranger hoodies :)

Their gear is quality and US made. I personally would look to Kifaru for a quality bag. I have bid on some of the tad gear bags on E-bay but so far they have went out of my acceptable range. I really don't think you will ever be disappointed with their quality just if the quality is worth the price is more or less up to you.

I'll only pay those kind of prices for gear that I'll be using ALOT!

Now one of their hoodies, I would surely spring for.

Ditto. Also search EDC forums. There ppl who have had both and prefer Kifaru. But I have no experiance with TAD.But Kifaru is tops. USA made.
But everyone has there own opinions.

Their Ranger Hoodie is the snuggliest jacket I've ever worn.

Yeah, I know, "snuggliest" is not a tough or cool description... but it is what it is! :)

Jeez, i checked out the hoodies. Everything ssssooooold out . How often do they do a run?

I just got my tax return tonight. Ukulele Banjo, TAD Gear F.A.S.T. Pack P.S. v2, plus an RC3 for my pops, because he was nice enough not to murder me throughout my early teens. Nothing says "I love you dad" like sharpened metals.

Thanks for all the help. I checked out the other forums mentioned and found some pretty good reviews. I wonder if there is a tactical ukulele Banjo case out there....maybe a kydex banjo survival sheath with webbing.

I had to check out TAD gear recently and placed an online order for a couple very small items that could have been put in a shipping envelope and dropped in the mail. The order was about $30 and shipping was about.....$30. I canceled the order, contacted them by email asking what's the deal with shipping. Never heard back.

Their gear is first rate and made in the USA. I have had some issues with their customer service though, I've tried contacting them via email and phone with no return calls or emails. Check out edcforums also, they have some good TAD reviews over there also. I also keep salivating over their hoodies, soon enough one will find it's way into my closet.

I have delt TAD multiple times YES they are rather more expensive then other companys for the product that you get. The times I have bought from them it was out of convenience then anything else , they had all of what I wanted in one spot.I have been to there store before kinda small but they cram alot of S**T in there though, employees are friendly and helpful.IMPO.

Some of their gear is US made. Much of their stuff is made in china. As far as their packs go, they are not what I'd call bomb proof. There are plenty of people at edcforums and elsewhere that have has issues with zippers or tears or other things that wouldn't happen with a dedicated military pack such as kifaru.

I'll be the first to say that TAD makes some cool stuff. However they cater more to the call of duty/counterstrike crowd than the actual soldier.

You are correct and i do only order items from them that are US made. That is why i did not get a Stealth Hoodie as it is imported. I bought the Spectre instead s it is US made.

I have no expierience with TAD gears packs. I do have their dispatch bag and have used it daily for over a year now. I am an Investigator (LEO) so I use it as a brief case/go bag containing my Toughbook, planner, Camera, Digital recorder, radio, pens, notebook etc. With the whole load out it adds up to a quite a bit of weight/bulk and I am far from being ginger with it. Thus far I have found absolutely no flaws w/ material or workmanship and the bag looks as new as the day I purchased it.

Some of their designs and many of their colors appeal to me, but ultimately, this is my assessment as well. The only TAD gear I've seen in real life is on pudgy guys dressed to the nines in brand-new TAD walking around knife shows. I'd like to check out a piece or two, maybe even just a beanie. But with the move towards Chinese production, I'm just not into it.:thumbdn:

Yeah I think the new stealth Hoodie is imported, I am not sure if all of the stealths are though, mine says made in the USA!

haha that comment hits close to home. I work on Call of Duty on and off, just the Treyarch title. I have more of a homeless jesus thing goin on so i feel safe no one will confuse me for a lost airsoft player.

After having a maxpedition pack it's hard for me to imagine a bag not having webbing so that locks me into that look. I couldnt get a bag that you couldn't attach things to or expand.
