All,
Offered here is a Tai Goo bush knife. Contrary to most of his pieces, this one is double edged and symmetrical and has a clearly martial feel to it. To me, it is most reminiscent of a smatchet, but with a "Goo twist" The blade is basically leaf-shaped, but it is faceted with each edge having three well defined segments..
I believe the steel is 1065. The construction is an integral socket handle covered with a wrap of some natural fiber (maybe cotton or hemp, I'm not sure), sealed with pinyion resin. It has a very comfy feel and is very secure in the hand.
I always felt that such a knife would be great to carry with a tall walking stick. You could just wedge the stick in the handle, and you would have a most serviceable boar spear... It would also be pefectly balanced for throwing, but its not a throwing knife.
Obviously, this is a superb piece of hand forging. It comes with a traditional wood scabbard called hikot, I believe. The knife wedges very securely in the scabbard. I bought this piece directly from Tai in 2002, I believe in March. You can see it on Tai's site here.
The blade is 6.5 and the OA length is 11.5". Price is $600 + shipping, ideally by MO, but I'll take PayPal and checks too. Please contact me at j.delage@gmail.com if interested, or respond here - please no PM if you're buying. I am not interested in any trade at this point. Thanks!
