Hot Forging Basics

I just watched Tai's video, and it's really good!

Tai covers some fundamental things behind moving steel with a hammer (as well as hot cutting, twisting, etc) that will be very useful for a bladesmith.

It's kind of funny, Tai does most everything in the same fashion with a hammer as I have come to do it... He's just a LOT BETTER at it than I am! :)

Somebody getting into forging would really benefit from watching this and getting an understanding on how to move hot steel. :)

Just an FYI- Some folks seem to think I hate Tai. While I do give him grief on here from time to time, it's all in fun. I have long respected Tai for his ability as a bladesmith. He is a wizard with a hammer.

Yea, he definitely marches to his own beat.... but then again, we all do! :) ;)

I remember people asking Tai for a blade forging video, and while I'd sure watch it if he had one, I'd like to point out that he shows the basics of moving hot steel in this video... and if you put it all together you'll be forging a blade.

Thanks Nick. I have it, and will watch it when I get back home.

Now, Tai, please do one specifically on forging a blade or 3 (straight, integral, socket handle, etc.)

I don't forge anything, but that video looks interesting. I might just have to order one and see what all the fuss is about!

ive been selling pirated copies like crazy on the russian ebay. thanks TAI.---marekz

I'd love to get the DVD, but I've heard that it makes you want to buy his custom hammers, which is more of an investment than I can make right now. :)

Thanks Nick. Glad you liked it. :)

Right now, the plan is to film the one day "Hammerjamin" Ray Richard and I are putting on the end of February. I'm not sure what I'm going to demo yet though, with limited time. However, I do plan on doing a DVD on forging an integral of some type this year, eventually maybe several different types.
