If I was you I'd put this on Good, bad and the ugly or General knife discussion. As some people aready did blast them on GKD because of this...December now. No word.
Got me again. Should have known better I guess. They fixed the sheaths on the newer stuff right? 2 out of 3 of mine are fine, right? The Tai Pan is just the notorious problem model, and I must have gotten an older one from before it was fixed, so...
SRK Compact came today. Figured if I wanted one now is the time, right? Nice little knife. Dull out of the box (shipped in the sheath inside the box unlike the Tai Pan.) Sharpened up easily though. Hair flinging sharp. In and out the Secure-ex a few times, no good. You can look at the edge and see in the light reflecting where the glass has torn it up. NO they have not "fixed" the sheath problem. Fucking Secure-ex. I give up. If I EVER get another CS that comes in this worthless shit I'll factor in an aftermarket sheath before I decide if I want it. A Tai Pan is not going to be easy to get one for. Doubt I'll ever want another anyway. Out of 4 CS fixed blades, 2 of them I can't carry.
My Tai Pan does the same thing. I have just decided that it's a fighting knife and sharp enough to do damage. However, I plan on making a new leather sheath for it the first of the year. My sheaths aren't pretty, but they are pretty solid. If I make one, I can make two. If I do get around to making one, I'll just double it and send one to you if you like. No charge. My work isn't worth much. But I know it won't dull your knife like the secure-exI'll keep you posted if I get this off the ground. A lot of it depends on me finding time to get to the leather supply store in Louisville

That's a generous offer. I was thinking about doing the same thing. We have a Tandy here. Would probably be working on one by now but I'm nursing a cut thumb right now. (knife nuts, right?) Cut a tendon so doc says three months or so to get back the strength and range of motion I'm going to get. Had it "repaired" Tuesday. Can't do anything with it yet. Typing sucks and is slow. Using a Sharpmaker left-handed sucks too, btw. But I make it work.
I haven't done any leather work yet so mine probably wouldn't be worth much either. We can learn together. Nice work to look at here in the "Sheaths and such" forum.
