So getting a descent return this year and am going to treat myself. I don't have a Taichung knife so need suggestions. Would like to keep it under $150 and want something lighter and and in the 2.75-3.25 range... Go

Your description says Sage to me.
I'm a fan of the Sage 3 and one of our forum vendors has them for $125 right now. Can't beat that with a stick.

Can't go wrong with a Gayle Bradley Air either; super light weight, M4 steel, titanium liners, and silver twill handle scales = pure awesome.

Sage 3 has been on my radar but have read mixed things about the locking mech. And the Bradley air is out for me as it is clip less

For light use and easy to carry, cant beat the chaparral.
Heavier use , Gayle Bradley is a no brainer.
Somewhere in between, the Sage.

For exotic looks and interest: Yojimbo. It has the compression lock of the PM2, and the ergos of a Manix, and is just plain fun. It's also relatively light at 4 oz.

For a work-horse knife that will take literally anything you throw at it and beg for more, the Gayle Bradley is top dog. It's, in my opinion, THE Spyderco.

I'll second (third? fourth?) the suggestion for the Sage series. Lots of good options in locks and handle materials. I didn't like my Sage 1 (have it for sale, wink wink), but not because of anything inherent in the knife. Just wasn't unique enough for me.

Chappy is a good option, too, if you're wanting a lightsaber in a tiny package.

I'm getting to the point where I prize my Taichungs over all my Goldens. I'll buy a knife instantly if it's a Taichung. I have to think about it if it's not.

I don't remember what the weight was on the gale Bradley but I do know its about $150 and comes in m4! In thinking on getting one.

What are the complaints you've read?
The only issue I can see is the axis lock guys complaining about needing more than one finger to disengage the lock.
Other than that the Sage 3 is the Spyderco I've started a few folks out on and I'm their maintenance guy. Every time they want it sharpened they give it to me and I clean, adjust, lube and sharpen.
These knives can take a beating as I've witnessed and no problems whatsoever on the half dozen edc 3's I maintain.

I read things about the action being sticky and problems with the lock

My Sage 3 is the smoothest operating knife that I own (out of about a hundred knives) and I have never had a problem with the lock. This is the first time that I have heard about someone having a problem with the Sage 3.

I think I may be set on the Sage 3. May have been just a couple of bad reviews. Since starting this thread have checked out a few YouTube reviews from guys who's opinions I respect and value and they seem to have the same opinions as you fine people.

Sage 3. The bolt lock is still my favorite, even over similar locks like the CBBL and Axis lock. Beats the compression lock too! I know!

The rest of the knife is awesome too. Smooth-as-butter pivot, just right size, and while CF is cool and all, I love my blue G10!

Well, my Sage 3 and Stretch came in! I have to say, the Sage 3 is the most perfect folder I've ever handled. It was so well finished that at first I thought it didn't have liners under the scales, I needed a flashlight to see them. It was like someone melted them in! The action is super duper smooth, no adjustment was needed at all. The lock was perfect, no grittiness at all. Even the grind on the edge was perfect! The screws were so tight that I didn't remove them, if I can't break them loose with 2 fingers I leave them alone, my Manix 2s, and PM2 came this way. The Tenacious and Delica needed loctite and tightening. It feels a lot like my Manix 2s only better finished and slightly smaller.

The Sage 3 puts the new Stretch to shame, the Stretch was gritty and even had a screw on the scale that was loose. It got slightly better after I oiled it but it needs broken in it seems. That being said, it fits my hand almost as well as the Manix 2s and Para Military 2. It also has an almost perfect blade to handle ratio. For almost half the price of the Sage 3 it's still worth it to me. I now have a Spyderco for every day of the week!

As promised here's some pics with of the new Sage 3 with the new Stretch, Manix 2 in satin, PM2, and Delica:

I really can't convey how nice the Sage 3 really is, it's just stellar. When guys said how nice the Taiwan made Spydies are you just don't understand how that could be possible. When you get it in hand and start comparing them to the other Spydies you just stare at it in shock. I'm going to buy another Sage 3, I learned a long time ago to buy two of something that I like. I usually have the bad luck of buying something and then the very next day it gets discontinued. The Sage 3 is really that good!

For exotic looks and interest: Yojimbo.

Yojimbo 2 is Golden, not Taichung.

I'm gonna throw Domino/Dice out there as an option... although slightly above your price point.

Maybe a Nilakka if you want unique (smoothest Taichung I own), or Chokwe if you want a real deal slicer.
