Never had a Spyderco but I was thinking about a c71 Green Salsa serrated. These knives are Taiwanese I hear but are they OK? I thought all Spydercos were US made? Anybody have experiences with this model?:barf:

:barf: <-- This icon is unnecessary:o .

I do have a "S" which is a twin of Salsa and also from Taiwan and nothing wrong with it. So, just buy it and don't need to be worried  .

... I thought all Spydercos were US made? ...
Spydercos were and are made in US, Japan, Taiwan, Germany, Italy, Switzerland. IMO the important thing is not the country, it's the ethics and quality standard and quality control.

Well, for simplicity, virtually all Spydercos (not byrds) are made in America or Japan with the rare exception. I've had three taiwanese knives and they were all fine, not great, but I was satisfied. I don't think there's anything to worry about, but I'd much, much rather buy a Japanese spyderco given the choice

I have experience with both the Seki Japan and US models. They are both some of the best knives I have owned -- fit and finish are excellent. If these examples are typical of Spyderco's quality, which I think that they are, don't worry about the Salsa.

Sal goes to great lengths to choose what companies he contracts knife production to. If they can't meet his Q.C. standards, they don't get to make knives for him. My Salsa is a well made knife, but it convinced me that CE and short blades don't mix well, so it doesn't see much pocket time.

Which Japanese would you recommend? I'd like a partially serrated, handle feel and quality is important too.Thanks.
