My last two knives come from Taiwan - Spyderco S and Boker Plus Trance. I have to say the quality is quite impressive, especially for the price you pay. These are some of the best deals on the market. And for a knife that you carry every day and won't be reluctant to use for the fear of scratches etc, these do the job perfectly well. Hats off to Taiwanese manufacturers and to the companies that have taken Taiwanese knives to a new level!

I like the Trance! (and the spyderco but it looks like
if I used it, it would get all sorts of gunk in the blade.)

I have a Spyderco Salsa which is the knife the "S" was based on. It is also made in Taiwan and is a really nice little knife.

I second that, my made in Taiwan BM Monochrome is so rock solid and I just got the CRKT S-2 which is also made in Taiwan. Both are really solid excellent knives for the money that you pay..

Absolute value!!

I gave someone a zytel Ti-Lite and when I handled it, it was a well made piece. Easily comparable to my US made knives.
I can understand that some people don't like to buy imports, but that doesn't mean they're not well made.

I have a sliver S too. It is a really nice knife and I really like it. FYI, if you only use things made in US, you might be wrong because lots of the component in your computer you're using right now are from TW; and, they're working great right? :D

One world, guys, one world -- if we didn't buy what they make to sell us, they couldn't afford to buy what we make to sell them. At least Taiwan is on our side, even if we don't back them as openly as they'd like.

(I am real pleased with my Trance. I liked the Subcom, but the Trance is even better, unless I want a really small knife with me.)

You have a good point Esav , you can be darn sure the Taiwanese are hoping the US stays the dominant superpower. The smart money's on the chinese though.

if you do not want to use any china or taiwan made stuff.. you might as well be living on the moon.. but then again, you probably need taiwan manufactured electronics to get you there in the first place.

They are everywhere.. deal with it!!

I have two inexpensive Taiwan knives Kalisnakov74 auto and BM Rant Bowie. Both are of excellent quality and see a lot of use.

Let us not forget that Taiwan is a friend and ally to the US.

There are tons of good quality Taiwanese blades out there...CRKT has a lot of offerings that stand up to pretty hard use and sharpen up well...

If you think you can avoid foreign made goods, think again...they are everywhere. Try getting in your "American" or European made car and thinking you only have domestic components in them...WORLD MARKET.

I recently purchased a Gerber Torch for $10 off ebay. Hinderer designed, made in Taiwan and for the money, the lock up, fit and finish is superb.

I agree that you can't buy everything American made because some things, like computers, are not made in America but I am passionate about knives and want to patronize American knife makers as much as possible. My first quality knife is an Al Mar SERE 2000 made in Japan but I am now going for quality over quantity and leaning towards custum and semi custom knives.I am sure those Taiwan knives are decent quality but I could probably find comparable quality for not too much more money from American companies. My opinion is those foreign companies get enough of our money through goods like clothing, electronics and so forth to stay balanced in the world market. If people keep buying soley for cost on everthing and patronize those companies that use slave labor our kids will never be able to get a job.

Yours is definitely a reasonable viewpoint...

Well.. to each his own...

I will go wherever quality lies.. even to Nepal for HI khuks..
