Take A Chance?

[/B]

John, being new to this forum (almost a whole 2 months now!! :D ), I have seen a few of your knives on some posts, & no negative comments about them. Why not post a thread of some of your more popular models that new guys like myself can see, & also some of the "older" members who may have forgotten what models you made (Folks, "older" does not in any way reflect on the age of the members, just their time on the forum . . .whew . . ;) ).
Just an opinion from a new member, hope I am not out of line . . .
Be safe.

This shows most of my models.

in today's marketplace there are many customers who just don't want to wait more than a few days for anything.

so, having product on hand is the only way to sell to the short attention span crowd, or they'll forget all about you and buy something that's available instead. this is usually called "spec work" because you're speculating that someone will buy it.

i just can't tell you what percentage of potential customers that actually will be.

as long as you're making projected delivery dates, working on other stock shouldn't be a problem.many makers only seem to do this part time and have a full time job. almost everyone has family and other stuff to do.

now, if a maker had an order outstanding and was selling spec knives in the FS forum while a custom order still wans't filled, that might seem od.

I`m thinking maybe a Pocketmuk too. That`s the one that will be in the next Backwoodsman ad, featuring outdoorsfan`s photo.

just a reminder, if you need print ads done for any publication i'm happy to help.

While I feel the wait involved in ordering kind of adds to the excitement and anticipation, there are a lot of people that need the instant gratification of seeing an item, buying it and having it in hand within a day or two. I think its a great idea!

I`m thinking of making the following:

Bushcrafter
EDC
Kentucky Fieldmate
Pocketmuk
Riverwoods Companion
Maybe a few others

Although I do order from makers and wait, I also buy production knives so I can try something new now. So having some on hand stock would be awesome. Plus, the pocket muk is one I've been eyeing. ;)

That seems like a good list but I would add a couple of the different versions of your Kephart. It seems to be pretty popular and a great all purpose blade.

Hi Stomper -

I would add the baby Kephart to the on-hand selection - make a few of those, as I think you could sell them.

best regards -

I agree on making the Kephart one of your extra knives, they tend to be a popular model and would probably sell quick, imo.

Yeah I like the kepharts too. Whenever I get a little fun money to spend on outdoor gear and want something now(cause I can be impatient like that) I always check this forum first thing to see if there are any up for grabs, so I think its a good idea to keep some knives on hand.
