Just to sort of kick things off and give me some practice posting pix here is my favorite khukuri from my own personal collection. Nepali broad blade, probably Salyan circa 1850. Handle ivory, all little tools ivory handled.

The little tools are

Bill, did you know that they just passed a law in Reno that bans Ivory. Send it over to me, I'll keep it for you,hehe.

I think anybody who has an appreciation of knives simply has to love this old khukuri. You will notice the buttcap is also ivory, held in place by two brass countersunk screws.

And, Cobalt, after the no ivory law in Reno this khukuri went into hiding.

Sidenote: did Reno really ban OLD ivory too? That's insane. I always thought Reno was SANE, that's where I went a couple of times on "gambler special" tourbusses. And I was gambling all right - betting that I could hid the 8 week old infant FERRET from the bus driver due to the California ban, quite possibly the world's stupidest prohibition. That's me, interstate weasel smuggler.

Sigh. Further discussion of domesticated houseweasels should be in Community where they've even got a LONG thread. Bill, so you know, Community is the "there's no sech critter as off-topic" forum.

But I really would like to know about that Ivory thing...

No, Jim, there is no such ban on ivory in Reno. Cobalt has been trying to figure a way to get that khukuri away from me and this was just another one of those attempts. It was all in jest.

Am I that transparent. I'm hurt, my character has been defiled(if thats possible), I've been publicly humiliated. I think it's Crazy California Law Suit Time. I wonder if the courts allow Ivory Khukuri's in payment for pain and suffering.

Ken, I must agree. This is one of the most beautiful khukuris I've seen anywhere, anytime. I feel a bit guilty keeping in under my bed when I know it belongs in a museum -- but it can go there later when I am not around.

For those who doubted in Reno, NEVADA, you should be aware (and I say this as a longtime Nevadan and former Renoite):

Reno is not hell, but you CAN see Sparks from there.
 
Hello everyone. What Bill hasn't told you is that he has decided to GIVE me this beautiful khukuri since I NEED to have this particular piece. He's like that.
