Take me to knife auction school...

Case XX Sodbuster Jr. $15
Wood K frame grips $10
14k and enamel Masonic watch fob $20 (I've had the watch several years.)

The fob is really the deal here. Most of these are either gold filled, or 10k.

I now have an excuse to get a K frame Smith & Wesson :D

The sodbuster was kind of an 'I have to buy at least one knife." pick up. In nice shape, previously sharpened, but seems like a rite-of-passage knife.

Looks like you did real well. You may be able to help some of us with your auction advice. :)
Good pickins guy0783, hope you get the K-frame soon!

Last one I went to had hundreds of Chinese (Rough Rider, etc) knives as "new" but no boxes. Crazy prices too.

I'm pretty happy with what I came away with.

I'll try to expand my knowledge and continue to keep my eyes open at auctions, garage sales, pawn shops, and antique stores.

It appears knives are like everything else and deals are to be had, but not the norm.

Sounds like you had a pretty good time and gained a bit of an education at the same time.

Check out your local flea market too.

You did good on the Sodbuster.

The last auction I attended was an estate sale with a ton of collectibles, including guns, a huge coin collection and some knives. The auction insert listed some Randall Made knives.

I drove an hour and a half to get to the auction, and it was packed crazy. The guns and coins went first (figures...) and I could tell right away there were not going to be any deals. Guns were going for the high end of market value and sometimes more. When they got to the knives, I had two Randalls that I was interested in, but they ran up over the average selling price in just a few bids, it was crazy.

I threw the auction flyer away and left after that first Randall.

I think you are much better off scouring flea markets if you are looking for deals. In my experience you are much more likely to find a jewel buried in a seller's pile of junk, because that means the seller does not know what they have. In an auction, everyone in the room must be unaware of the value or not paying attention.

Be prepared to walk away. Know your price limit. Don't get caught up in the auctioneering, whether online or in person.

Glad to hear you came away happy with your choices.

I just came away from a local Gun and Knife show in Kansas City yesterday. Although mainly marketed as a Gun show, there were tons of tables of knives, including collections of older traditionals. There were several "Tacticool" knife tables, with the ubiquitous CCC switchblades and Zombie knives, but a decent amount of beautiful old traditionals.

I've noticed, if you go on the last day of show, folks are much more willing to make a bargain with you. As I had no cash, I played it safe, but that doesn't mean I didn't drool... :D

Good deal on that sod buster trust me it will be a knife your kids will pass down to their kids a tuff little knife always one of my go to

I've carried and used the sod buster a few days now and I'm impressed with its versitility. Not too heavy in the pocket and feels good in the hand. As its reputation suggests I see it being a great hard use folder.
