I signed up to take a basic knife making class. Two 8 hour Saturday's. Not sure exactly what we will make , but everyone is expected to leave the class with a knife . No prerequisites other than being 18 or older, long pants, leather gloves, boots, eye protection , and long sleeve shirt. I just started collecting and I'm excited to gain an appreciation of just what our American bladesmiths labor through to create the masterpieces I've seen . Anybody have a clue what is typically made in a class like this? The syllabus was a bit vague but did imply we will be forging , hampering, belt sanding, and filing . Would you think just a basic carbon steel knife with a wood handle? I'm fine with something I can use as a kitchen or chef knife although I wouldn't mind a skinner or something more survival oriented.
