I know most here are diehard carbon steel fans, me included but I wanted to talk about stainless steel. The steel I'm referring to is 154CM. It is actually a stainless tool steel, an improved 440C. If offers more wear resistance, enhanced corrosion resistance and higher hardness then 440C. I have been testing a knife in this steel and I'm very impressed with edge holding and edge strength. Anyone looking for a stainless knife for wet climates, this is one steel I would highly recommend.

Scott since I have a couple of your blades and I know your edge geometry is spot on and your heat treat is tops, I would not have a problem with a blade in 154cm from you.

I have a Benchmade fixed Resistor in 154cm that I bought for canoeing, kayaking, wadefishing and swimming and I find myself putting it onto my belt other times just because of the combo of good size, good sheath and good steel.

It's my only stainless fixed blade, and I doubt I'll get anymore, but it is good steel.

I have made a fair amount of knives using cm154 and it is my favorite stainless ( after Damasteel) , It is nice because it takes to any finish well, and holds a good edge,

still Ill take a peice of 1075 to put my life on anyday..

The newest ScrapYard blades are 154CM. (The MudPuppy and Bird Dog, I believe). The consensus about them on the ScrapYard forum seems positive so far.

Not that I can afford one at this time but if you decide to try a 154CM full tang Bowie and need to know how it holds up in the salty, wet Oregon Coast we'll need to talk.:D

I love the newer 154. I have several Gerber Gators in that steel. They are indestructible and take and hold a fantastic edge. I nice little nessie in that steel would be a dream.:D
