Hi everybody,

I want to take a machete to the US (mail nor courier won't take them as they consider them weapons ). Does any of you know if I'll have problems with customs at the airport?
How can I ship the machete once in the US?

Thanks for your answers!

Just make sure it's in your checked luggage (NOT carry on!:D) and you'll be fine. Shipping machetes--or sharp stuff of nearly any kind--in the US is no problem as long as it's properly packaged. I mail them almost every day! :)

Out of curiosity, what's the machete in question? A Hansa piece, I presume! ;)

No real experience with customs personally but hunters fly with rifles in their checked luggage all the time.

You can't just pack a gun in your checked luggage and expect it to pass unnoticed; there are procedures you have to follow which your airline can tell you about. That's irrelevant, but I don't want people to misunderstand Shotgun's post and find themselves in jail.

A machete in checked luggage is no problem and doesn't require any special procedures. Just make sure it's packed so it can't cut its way out and injure somebody when they throw your bag around and stomp on it.
