Taking apart pinned knives question

I have a couple of pinned Spyderco knives that I want to take apart for thorough cleaning and lubing, is this even possible? I already have cupped tip punches that are a perfect fit. I must admit that I am spoiled by the screw-on construction of my newer knives. Thanks for the help.

Anything can be taken apart. ;)

However, in the case of pinned Spydercos, they fall into the category of "things that shouldn't be taken apart."

In all seriousness, they are not meant to be disassembled. Washing them with hot water and soap, followed by an air dry (such as a hairdryer on low heat) cleans thoroughly, then a drop or two of lube takes care of the rest.

A used toothbrush, some hand soap, and toothpaste will clean a knife very well, no need to take anything apart.

Taking them apart is not too difficult. It's putting them back together that's tough. It's one of those things that falls under the heading "If you have to ask, don't try it". ;)

I have taken many apart...........For the purpose of fitting them with new scales. If you don't intend doing that, just wash and blow dry.

See STR if you want new scales, he does a great job.(screws included)

Thanks for the tips guys.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I guess a visit to STR is in order. It is a well-used Ayoob PE by the way.

I'd like to replace the scales on my Ayoob with black micarta, but the silly things have gotten too valuable to mess with. Unless I find one that is beat up, or until I carry this one enough to beat it up, I guess I'll leave it alone.

Usually, when pinned knives are disassembled, they get reassembled with screws, losing that slick finished look. Just so you will know ;)

I hear ya. I was looking at eBay to get a backup and I was very surprised how much they were selling for lately. You need to hold an Ayoob to appreciate how slim and light they are. The almite handle on mine can surely use a bead blast.

Anybody have any idea which clip from a current model will fit it? Preferrably black as well.

never liked the ayoob myself and i have had one, i suppose its "ok" but i honestly prefer a police.

point being i have never seen what all the fuss is about lol
