Taking the King to the arctic - hiking in Finnmark, Norway.

Those are some EPIC pics. Out of all the places I've been in Europe, Norway was the best. I was in Stavanger for a week working but it was still awesome.

Hey Saint Loke.......

It is I, Sir who must thank YOU....... Thanks for the kind words ....... NICE photos of some beautiful country..... Thank you too for sharing your "getaway"..........

It really does make me happy to see one of the 'kids' off on an adventure in a land far from OLean or Tennessee helping a seasoned outdoorsman have a good time.......made my day it did...

All Best....

Ethan

Hey Ethan. Thanks for the comment. Next summer I'm taking my wife over the pond, to the USA, and we plan to rent a car and drive through the southern states. I'm looking forward to see your country, I'm hoping it will be quite different from what I'm used to up here.

I'm impressed that you were able to pack so much gear.

The Vulture II was packed as tight as humanly possible, and I had the tent strapped under, and the sleeping pad strapped to the long side. Never again though, it was not designed for the volume of gear I forced into it. The backpack almost screamed for mercy when I began attaching some molle packs.

My hiking backpack is 100 liter, and has a solid frame with a massive belt and thick, padded shoulder strops. But I just got the little vulture, and I really wanted to test it. You know how it is with new gear.

New gear can be a gift and a curse. I crammed so much crap into my moab 10 on my first hike after i got it i thought the zippers would tear. My shoulder disaproved. Turns out sling bags aren't supposed to be stuffed with that much gear:P

Hey Saint Loke......

I am just across the Little Tennessee river from The great smoky mountain national park.....If I am still living here we gots plenty space for wayward Beckerheads....... Keep in touch.....

Loke do not miss New Mexico and Arizona! Google chaco canyon it is a UNESCO site and former home to an early Meso American group!

That really does seem peaceful. I never seem to take the time to get away from work and the computer and get out into the outdoors these days. Thank you for the inspiration!

Job's been rough lately, and I really needed a time out. So I packed my bag and went out for an overnighter, I decided to take some photos aswell. I like documenting my trips, it makes it easier to remember locations, weather and what gear I used. This time I thought I might share it with the becker forum, as the BK9 and the BK13 were my two only companions for the trip.

I just bought a brand new Vulture II from Maxpedition. I'm not a minimalist camper, and I like to stuff my bags full. I justify it with "this is the only workout I get", but I really just like to haul my stuff around. The Vulture was new, but it was too small. I wished I'd brought the regular 100 liter frame backpack instead. But I managed.

Here's some photos from my hike. I walked about 20 kilometers in mountain terrain.

My destination, a small lake about 800 meters above sea level.

After I found my camp site, I went out to collect fire wood. As you can see, the trees in my region are few and far between, so it was a long walk to collect enough for a night.

I hauled the wood back to my camp site, and started to process it. Every time I unsheat the BK9 and start chopping, I silently thank Ethan Becker for creating such an awesome tool.

Camp, fire and then: FOOD! I love some beef, potato and carrot stew. Lots of salt and pepper. It's the feast for champions.

And of course, a dramatic picture of the BK9

The grey morning after, was full of rain and fog. But I had got some peace of mind alone in the mountains.

That's my little overnighter, thanks for looking.
What tent is that??? I need it.

Excellent write-up!

I have not been out in the mountains or woods for almost a year now, i just havent had the time

Your post just rekindled my passion for the outdoors though! I visited Hardangervidda about 2 years ago...great trip! I also did a write-up of the trip here on bladeforums: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/887985-Norway-mountain-plateau-hike!

I was thinking about a trip to Jotunheimen early October, but opted against it, as im out of hiking shape and its too late in the season. Maybe next summer.

Keep posting about your trips!

P.S
I think ive got the same pants...Haglofs Rugged Mountain? They make some great hiking pants!

Again, thanks for all the kind comments. I'm planning a longer autumn trip over the western part of the Finnmark expanse (Finnmarksvidda). I'll bring my camera.

Loke do not miss New Mexico and Arizona! Google chaco canyon it is a UNESCO site and former home to an early Meso American group!

Thanks for the heads up! I googled it, and it looked awesome. One more thing to see on our trip.

As for the tent: It's a Mckinley venture 3 extreme. It's got snow flaps, detachable inner tent, and room for three people (if you dont mind having your personal zone invaded every time someone moves). It's a good tent, and really easy to set up, even without trees. Though I must say that the ventilation suffer some because of the snow flaps and the extra rugged nylon. I sleep with the inner tent flap open, then there's no problem.

Excellent write-up!

There's some really beautiful pictures in the post you linked to. Looks like you've had an awesome trip over Hardangervidda. Jotunheimen is beautiful, but be aware of the trolls (not the forum type). And I can understand the time issue. When I lived in Oslo, the capital, it was a struggle to get out. But now I live in a small village, right next to Finnmarksvidda. The mountains are my backyard, so I dont have an excuse anymore.

And I know Haglofs pants, they look very similar to Fjällrëven, which I have. Both are Swedish brands I think.

Great pics!I swear Norway looks just like Newfoundland, Canada. That little pond looks just like one my sister her husband and i camped on 15 years ago. Judging by the scenery in this thread I guess when the Vikings came to Nfld they probably didn't feel very homesick! :)

Great pics! Thanx for sharing.
I visited the south of your country 2 years back, I loved it!
Will come back to explore further up north.
