BAS is maybe my favorite for a knife I'm going to carry around and put to general-purpose use. The "small" size helps (blade is around 10 inches). The longer ones I tend to use more for specific projects, such as when I know I'm going to be chopping a lot of wood. If you KNOW you're going to be chopping an afternoon's worth of firewood, I'd go for the bigger ones, such as the WWII or the various ang khola versions. (I LOVE the chiruwa ang khola, but it can get easy to leave behind in favor of the lighter, shorter BAS on many trips.) But if it's more general-purpose, whatever-comes-up, might want to cut meat with it, etc., you might be happier with a BAS or possibly a smallish sirupati. If thrashing away at light, springy vegetation is probably on the menu, I'd then think about one of the longer, thinner knives--like a longer sirupati, or a Gelbu Special. Actually, the Gelbu Special can do some respectable chopping, too--but just keep in mind that even the "short" 15-inch khukuris are a pretty big piece of steel on your belt. Great fun, but they'll draw stares at your office Christmas party.
