If you saw my post on my Fiddleback Hunter, you were probably wondering why the sheath got no mention. I wanted to do a separate review/post to showcase Talfuchre's excellent work. TF custom made this sheath for the Hunter. As requested, he included a firesteel loop for a 3/8" firesteel, a belt loop and a removable dangler set up. I wasn't sure how I'd like the dangler, but it is actually quite comfortable. Ultimately, I will probably use it almost exclusively. Enough babble though, on to the pics!

Just look at this wet form. You can literally see every contour of the handle even though the knife isn't in the photo.

In another review, it was recommended that TF keep the stitching for the belt loop within the confines of the loop as shown here.

My one recommendation can sort of be seen in this photo. As stated previously, TF did an amazing job on the wet forming around the handle and it provides an extremely secure hold. The only negative (and possibly preference more than a true negative), is that it creates a contour around which the belt loop has to extend, making the loop kind of close fitting to the wet formed area.

This makes getting a belt through the loop somewhat difficult. I didn't try it with the knife in the sheath as I thought it would make it even harder. I would recommend slightly wet forming the belt loop to make passing a belt through a little easier. Again, this is probably just preference as others might prefer a snug fitting loop that doesn't allow the sheath to slide around, which makes sense.

I forgot to get a photo of the burnished and finished edges. The craftsmanship here is so good that it almost looks like one continuous piece of leather.

The bottom line is that this is a well made sheath and will last for many years. It holds the knife well and I would be proud to wear it anywhere (that the sheeple wouldn't run scared from the Hunter:D). Thanks again TF for such a fine sheath!

Also, some of TF's glamour shots of this rig can be seen here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=636271

Absolutely top notch work. Send it over and I will get it dirty for you! Seriously, I will be ordering a rig like this one.

When I saw it in your other thread, I thought it was a JRE sheath. I wish I would have seen Tal's stuff before just recently sending a knife to the JRE guys. His sheaths are looking top notch

Wow - Thanks everyone.

What I could have done was to put a belt blank in the belt loop portion while wetforming it. That is a great suggestion.

It WILL stretch for you however - just stick a belt though there - and wear it for a day - the heat from your body will cause it to sweat.

Wow - I will CERTAINLY take this comment! JRE is a great company. They have helped me a ton to make my sheaths better.

I like that sheath a lot. It reminds me of the Puma white hunter in the stitching but much more fitted. It's a good looking rig that will probably outlast us all!

Like I said, it is probably also preference. When I first tried to slide my belt in I thought "hmmm... this is kind of tight", but as I was typing the review I thought "hmmm... tight will keep it from sliding around on the belt". I have no doubt it will break in well though.

You should certainly take that compliment. I have some JRE products and they are nice; however, they lack the hand crafted, attention to detail that your sheaths have. I've not purchased one of their sheaths individually, so I'm not sure what one of their rigs of this type would run, but I will say that if yours is a little more expensive, I think it is well worth it.

Bravo!! I especially like the dangler, in my opinion they are highly under-rated. They are very comfortable, and if they are too floppy for you a leg tie down solves that problem, plus you still get the comfort and freedom of movement.

Nice work Tal. I'll just go on and on waiting forever before I get to see my sheath...

VERY nice work TF. I thought it was a JRE sheath at first as well. It looks fantastic, I think I may have to get one of your sheaths one of these days. Just need to find ak nife that I need a sheath for.

Hmm.... TF, I think you'll be getting a PM from me soon regarding new pants for one of my knives... Great craftsmanship here bud!

I DO take it as a compliment. Great orginization. Mine if about 10 dollars more - give or take. But they can get one to you NOW - mine takes a little time - and you will have to send me the knife. It is all a trade off - thanks for the kind words.

Actually for custom orders they are pretty backed up, I was quoted 2 months for my order, which was just about 2 months ago that I sent in my knife :o

Wow, wasn't that other thread just a couple days ago? You must really be cranking them out, to already see changes...

Another beautiful piece of leather!

It's hard for me to believe TF has only been doing this for a short while. Awesome leather working and a very quick study:thumbup: I've made a few leather sheaths and I know the work involved. Great stuff, keep it up:)
