If you saw my post on my Fiddleback Hunter, you were probably wondering why the sheath got no mention. I wanted to do a separate review/post to showcase Talfuchre's excellent work. TF custom made this sheath for the Hunter. As requested, he included a firesteel loop for a 3/8" firesteel, a belt loop and a removable dangler set up. I wasn't sure how I'd like the dangler, but it is actually quite comfortable. Ultimately, I will probably use it almost exclusively. Enough babble though, on to the pics!
Just look at this wet form. You can literally see every contour of the handle even though the knife isn't in the photo.
In another review, it was recommended that TF keep the stitching for the belt loop within the confines of the loop as shown here.
My one recommendation can sort of be seen in this photo. As stated previously, TF did an amazing job on the wet forming around the handle and it provides an extremely secure hold. The only negative (and possibly preference more than a true negative), is that it creates a contour around which the belt loop has to extend, making the loop kind of close fitting to the wet formed area.
This makes getting a belt through the loop somewhat difficult. I didn't try it with the knife in the sheath as I thought it would make it even harder. I would recommend slightly wet forming the belt loop to make passing a belt through a little easier. Again, this is probably just preference as others might prefer a snug fitting loop that doesn't allow the sheath to slide around, which makes sense.
I forgot to get a photo of the burnished and finished edges. The craftsmanship here is so good that it almost looks like one continuous piece of leather.
The bottom line is that this is a well made sheath and will last for many years. It holds the knife well and I would be proud to wear it anywhere (that the sheeple wouldn't run scared from the Hunter
). Thanks again TF for such a fine sheath!
