Talk me back into thumb studs

I think the round hole-opener is the best. Why add another part when you can take away and achieve the same end? If the hole is beveled, or is oval, or any other shape, it tends to not work as well. Though I have a few knives with studs, I think they are inferior. Mostly because the studs catch on things in my pocket and depending on its location and width of the blade, they usually interfere with sharpening on my Edge Pro if i want an edge angle below the factory one. The "disc" openers that Emerson uses seem to be better at staying out of the way though.

As far as the blade being weaker on thumb-hole models, I've never had a problem. From what I've seen, the knife's tip or pivot area will be toast long before you get a break at the hole area of the blade.

Funny, I'm exactly the opposite. I find the hole much harder to use and flick open than a thumbstud. I sold the knives I had with the hole because it wasn't as comfortable to use as the thumbstud. (for me)

I like the way they feel better and also think they deploy better. Doesn't having a big opening hole make for a weaker blade since there's less steel causing a weak point? That's my thought on them.

I doubt it but how strong does one really need a folding knife? I guess this comes down to personal usage. For me a pocket knife is a slicer and not something I would put much force on. I keep the blade razor sharp because I'm lazy and I'd rather the knife do the work then my arm. :D

OP; Can't help you. I greatly prefer thumb holes and I'm with you in that I'd like to see more manufacturers use them. Something sticking out perpendicular to the cutting plane just feels wrong to me. Plus, it's another screwed on part that can fail. They're a no go for me either.

I've sold or given away most of my knives with studs. I have three knives with studs, two with flippers, and the rest holes. I don't like the feel of studs. Holes look weird, but feel great. So no, I won't talk you into thumb studs at all.

I also greatly prefer deployment holes over thumb studs and I love waving knives open too so adding a zip tie to the hole allows that. However, my affinity for these features greatly limits my choices.

I'm damn glad my SnG has a hole as the detent would make thumbstuds torture. While I adore my Sebs, the pointy studs are not as luxurious as the rest of the knife.

I much prefer thumb studs to holes (and I hate thumb discs). With holes , too much of the blade back has to be expose to fit a hole in. With thumb studs the blade is nice and concealed when closed , more so than a holed blade.

Just my opinion. But I still love Spydercos as much as Benchmades.

I prefer no holes, studs, buttons, switches, flippers, or nail nicks. I just use the Force.

I guess I'm the only one that thought this was freaking funny :)

How can you be convinced when your mind is made up. Put away all your knives for a while and carry only a knife with thumb studs, you'll fight it for a while, then come to like it, maybe love it. That's the way my dad taught me to use a jig and pig bass fishing. He didn't let me use any other lure until I fished with the jig for a while. It's my go to lure year round now. As long as you have choices, you will stick with what you know and like

Some knives have an oval shape instead of a circular hole and I think those are nice. But thumb studs are my preference.

Besides,
can you spydie flick a thumb stud. Nope.

Some you can. I can flick my Hogue EX-01 Wilson Combat Star-Light with my middle finger. But then again, I agree, I hate thumb studs too. I only buy thumb holes and flippers from now on - tip down that is lol, so options are even more limited.
