*that doesn't mean PM me with one you want to sell

Seriously though, talk me into a Batac for weekend carry and out of work carry. Would I be better suited with a tankbuster? I don't have all that much experience with midsized busses, ASH1s etc and stuff like that. If it's any help, I EDCd a CG ash 1 for a while, but it was a little bit too heavy. I really do like a stout blade as many of you know, so help me decide. Comparison pics would help, I've owned/own most "modern" busses at one time or another so pics could help me decide.

I've handled one and it was definitely stout. Shorter than a Tankbuster if I'm correct. I don't remember it being extremely heavy or anything, it did seem like it had a large handle to blade ratio so it would be fine for guys with large hands.

Sar 5 is better. Shorter overall size with more usable blade. No choil.

I had an SAR 5 but traded it before I even handled it. I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't have. What about a SJtac? I didn't realize the batac was in the same size range of the SAR 5.

My CG Ash-1 was superb but too heavy for a such short knife - for me.
My CG Batac was too thin (both blade and handle) - for me. And I didn't like the edge angle.

My Batac LE is P E R F E C T. It's not the best at any one thing but does pretty much everything pretty good. Compact, robust, wonderfull edge angle, beautifull design... the perfect alchemy.

well I guess it depends on what you thought of your boss jack...the TB is a beast of a tough knife (.25 I think)... the TB weighs close to 16oz though.. Its such an awesome knife in my opinion.
I had both a BATAC and a TB and the BATAC reminds me of a shorter, stubbier TB.

Weight-wise, I like the Scrapper 5 LE...mudder handles, very light...INFI...about .22 thick if i am correct. but if you use the butt of the knife for hammering type jobs it prob wont suit you. The Scrapper weighs in at about 7oz

Here is a comparison shot of the scrapper and TB

It's one of my favorite users. With the exception of my "travelling" CGFBM, this one is currently the most used Busse I have. :) It's lost a little coating around the tip area, but the rest is hanging tough...a little too tough ;) as I'd like to eventually strip it once it wears down some more.

Any spine shots of the cg vs the le? Thickness?

Sorry, but I have none. I'll see about snapping a comp shot later today in the daylight if no one else has posted one. In the meantime, the thickness is...

CG= approx. .187"
LE/SE= approx. .270"

:)

I tried a CG ASH1 too and it didn't last 3 days before it moved on. The CG BATAC is a good way to go if you plan to wear it all day. All day long outside I carry my skinny ASH about 4-5 days/week and my CG BATAC 2-3 days/week with a S5LE to fill in the gaps. For me the Skinny doesn't weigh enough more to give up the blade length, but if I had never had a Skinny ASH I wouldn't know that and the CG BATAC would be plenty good enough all by itself.

I have tried many but have not found one I prefer over the CG BATAC. I'm not really big on choils but this one is useful for sure. I ordered a LE direct but it was too thick for my tastes. I had one with G/10 but didn't like the weight/balance. I have visited this design several times but settled on the CG with mag micarta. There is a reason that they have 31 flavors! I think thats where being able to handle one at Blade or one of the other shows would really work well (or borrowing one from a buddy). I have bought and sold many a knife that I thought would be perfect but this one still remains. Here is a pic of mine on its first camping trip along with one of my first exchange buys from a few years back (SAR is one of Jaxx's long lost children).

You should give one a feel and see if it fits your needs.

The CG BATAC is the one I carry more often than my Satin Jack Tac, or the Boss Jack:eek: I almost never carry my FAT-ASH or the skinny one, though I like both of them a lot. Don't have a TB and I didn't like the SAR5 much.

My favorite EDC midish size knives would be in this order:

SS4, Scrapper 5LE, CG BATAC, Boss Jack, Satin Jack, Mudrazor, AshLE, BATAC LE, Boss Street...

If weight is not a big issue, and you like a fatter blade, the BATAC LE is hard to beat (and NO, I am not selling mine:D)

I think the TankBuster sort of fixes what's wrong with the BATAC.

A little more blade, and the option for no pointy pommel, and a no choil option.

Only slightly bigger, but much more knife, and more useful IMO.

I like the BATAC. I've got a CG that's a favorite user.

The 2007 SE I had was a great knife, but a little thick for me and eventually it moved on. I also had a SJTac and thought the handle slabs were too thin. The CG BATAC with Mags turned out to be just right.

Here's a spine shot of a SJTac on the left, a CG BATAC with Mags in the center and a 2007 BATAC SE on the right. The SE is the same thickness as the LE.

Hate my batac's. Traded away a SE and still have two batacs and they will eventually go away. Blade to handle ratio all goobered up for me. If you like the Ash then try a skinny one or go to the HellRazor. Like both of those. Funny thing is the boss streets with no choil probably has the same usable blade length and you get rid of the skull crusher for free! In that category I prefer my sarsquatches. Great handle, thin, and usable pommel. Good luck but unfortunately I won't talk you into one, a swing and a miss in my opinion.

Pete
