Talk me into a Military

Hey guys, I love the Military, but I already have a BM740 which is so similar I am have trouble justifying a Mil. Tell me why I should buy one anyway.

Does anyone know how the ergonomics compare? I've never held either one of those knives, but the mil looks more comfortable and accessible to me. The blade also has more of a curved edge than the 740, which I think is great for many tasks. I think the mil's blade is also 1/32 in. thicker than the 740's blade.

Milli's a great knife, but I sold mine b/c it's freaking huge!!! However if you can carry a folder that large w/o freaking the sheeple, it's very light, strong, pointy and slice-o-riffic.

This is what you need to do. But a Millie and send it to STR for a FRAMELOCK! I have one of the 2 that he has done and it is AWESOME and will last a lifetime. It is the most solid framelock and the SMOOTHEST I have ever handled! Good Luck! Kevin:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I held a mil at a shop in Cal. The knife is very lightweight, and felt surprisingly sturdy and nice in my hand. I have seen 2 spydie mil break cutting cardboard, each within 2 weeks of each other:thumbdn:. I would go with the manix though, because it is a little smaller, and more sturdy:thumbup:.

I would never intentionally try to talk someone in to buying a liner-lock folder...even one as near perfect as the Military.;)

I've EDC'd a Milly (SE) for ten years. I have other knives , once I picked one up, that was it.

It's not a pry bar, but the most aggressive cutter I've ever used, and its sturdy.

How the hell does someone break a knife with cardboard?

It's easier than you might think, especially when you are not actually cutting, but trying to pry the flap up on a shipping carton. I seriously doubt either of those instances were a result of edge-on pressure. Even if they were, two breaks out of...what, ten thousand Militaries out there, maybe more...isn't something to sweat. After all, it's a knife, not a crowbar.

I only own a few dozen liner lock knives, but I must say the lock on the Military is the best engineered and executed liner lock I have ever seen. The knife looks and feels huge when you first handle it. Then you slip it in your pocket and forget it is there. Pretty soon, it looks and feels like a normal knife, and those other things feel like pen knives. Heavy pen knives at that.

If you like a knife that is light enough to clip to your sweat pants and ignore on your morning jog, yet big enough to handle just about any task that comes along from snipping a loose thread to field dressing a moose, the Military is tough to beat. Especially for a price about a third of a large Sebenza.

The relation between blade and handle on the Military is one of the best I've used. It really is an incredibly good design, If you've never held one you're missing out.

I've been using a Military for the past 12 years or so as my weak-side pocket folder for duty (Army). I started out with a fully serrated 440V version, picked up a plain edge S30V and now carry a CPM-D2 version plain edge. The Military has been with me on a few different continents from the jungles of South America to the deserts here in the Middle East. As a pure cutter, you won't find many knives with a better blade profile. I've never had an issue with the liner lock, it's no prybar but that's not its purpose. I love the flat profile and the ergonomics of the handle. It looks big, but carries like a smaller knife with it's flat profile. Again, this isn't my primary, strong side folder...those have changed over the years, but the Military, in one variation or another, has continued to be a part of my EDC, from a Combat Zone to backpacking back home, to bumming around the house or town.

I never liked liner locks but with the Military my eyes are opened to the joys of a well-designed one. The Military is a great knife, lightweight and an excellent cutter. I would say it is probably one of the best folders out there.

because life's too short to wait around and let us talk you into buying one. thumbs up for the spydie.

Just my 2 cts. I also am not crazy about liner locks but having heard only good things about the new d2 Mili I decided to order one. Just got it about a half hr. ago. Rally alot lighter then what I would have thought. Very thin and you dont know its in your pocket. Really sharp. The liner dosnt go over as far as I would like but I think it just needs to break in. Wish it had a deeper pocket clip. I like them to ride a little lower. Tip seems to be a bit fragile but we will see. Feels really good in the hand. Havent cut anything with it yet but I think it will be a very good slicer. I will play with it for a while but right now I have to say I would buy it again. Actually probably going to buy another for a backup and I only do that with knives that I really like.

"Bowrr. Please buy one...if you do don't, I will be sad. Bowrr."

Seeing that brings to mind that I have 2 Rat Traps. Like I said. When you find one you really like buy 2.

As long as you are still looking at other knives, have a look at the Benchmade
710 D2. It is very well made, uses an AXIS lock, and the blade is nearly 4 inches long.
