Talk me into buying an ASH 1

The INFI ASH-1 originally came in 3 thicknesses: .188" (skinny), .225" (LE), and .320" (Combat Grade (CG) or fat). The skinny blade is convex ground, and the LE and CG are flat ground. Some later .22" INFI ASH-1s are saber ground. Another option on the CG model is standard grips (flat sides) or magnum grips (thicker with curved sides); both are available in canvas micarta or G-10. All skinny and most .22" ASH-1s have magnum grips.

The Battle Grade (BG) ASH-1 in your photo is .250" thick, has a saber grind, and the tan micarta grips are magnum size. The SR-101 steel used in the BG models is not as rust resistant as INFI, but is still an excellent steel.

If you plan to chop with it, I recommend the thicker and heavier CG model, otherwise any of the others are fine.

There have probably been a lot of threads on the ASH-1; here is one I found:

There was a shortage of ASH-1s for awhile; many of them went to Australia - I won't mention any names, but the guy smiles a lot. ;) :D

Have fun searching for your knife!

I only have the .225" and .25" thick varieties (one custom shop and one battle grade) but I DO want to eventually try out a fatty. You really just have to hold one in your hand to get an idea of how great they feel. Almost like you could stab it through anything. As a full disclaimer, I cannot comment on the comfort of the standard milled handle scales as both of my ASH-1's have hand-shaped scales which feel incredibly smooth and comfortable. Even with the contoured scales, the knife really locks into your hand due to the design of the straight handle.

Not sure if it's been covered, but if you have XXL paws, the ASH series isn't for you (especially if gloves will be worn).

There, did I talk you out of it?;)

Oops... thought the title was "talk me out of an ASH", since that's where most people have a hard time.......saying "NO" to INFI or SR-101.

I have all three thicknesses of ASH1's and I really, really love the skinny ASH1 the most. It's in my top 3 most used Busses along with my CGFBM and Millie AD. I really think that the original SFNO is the sexiest Busse design ever, but in use the Skinny ASH1 blows it away IMO. (I really disliked my NMSFNO and NM Busses in general.) I have my little, beautiful SFNO collection but I never use them. I also sold off all of my SJ TAC and BA TAC knives because of the Skinny ASH1. I kept a Tank Buster but I never use it either -- because of the Skinny ASH1!

Thanks for all the great input guys. Honestly I would have bought it already but funding is an issue, trying to flip another knife to put it together and no one is biting at this time... Hopefully it will still be there when I get the loot...

There was also a Special Edition ASHI that was available only at a Blade Show, I forget which year. It was a little thicker than the skinny, may have been the same thickness as the LE. It is a wonderful feeling knife, but I have never used mine.

Another interesting fact about the heaviest ASHI in INFI is that there was a special offer to order a brown-coated one with your HOG Name on the blade. I ordered one of these for my daughter Kim, the second Hoggette ever inducted. I have seen some of these on the after-market also.

I think local disposal is the preferable option--you're so far away Andy... I can help the man out with getting rid of that poor excuse for cutlery... :D

Love mine! It's a skinny... it's been used, stripped, beat, honed, and used lots more since...

Really man--get the ASH1... such a great, versatile blade. The Skinny is about 3/16ths, convexed, and does it all:

Duramax is right. Here are some more pics. Here's a Skinny Ash with a Tank Buster and a Boss Jack.

Also, Does anyone know if the scales on a Fat Ash are flat? As apposed to contoured like mine? I've seen some pics that look like they are.

The flatter scales are Standard and the thick, contoured ones are Magnums.
The thinner Standard scales on a Fatty fit my hand just right.

Restoration project on the TGLB is underway, Im electro etching the logo right now and got the citristrip ready to go. Planning on bead blasting and light polish on the blade..

Also great to check the Busse Bad Mojo site for much information, and photos of knives you wish you had.
