Talk me out of a Lexus LS 430....

My friend's 90 Toyota Corolla has well over 200k miles on it and still runs great, it's literally the car that will not die. An oil change every now and then and watch her run.

Honestly the LS 430 is simply one of the finest and most reliable cars on the road, it is HARD to find anyone to say one bad word about them. Many other high-end brands esp. Jaguar have loads of QC issues that would be unacceptable on a new Corolla. However as one guy previously stated the S-class MAY be safer. I have seen some S-Classes virtually destroyed that people walked away from. Now, the Lexus may very well be just as safe I've just never seen enough of them wrecked to have an opinion on safety but if there were safety issues with it I'm sure there would be a forum somewhere bashing it as unsafe. Also the Lexus is NOT a rebadged Avalon, the Lexus is V8 and rear-drive and the Avalon V6 and front drive, totally different cars and the Lexus is a BIG step up, not to diss the Avalon. Other cars you may want to consider: Lincoln Town Car, Mercedes S500 (I'd opt for the V8), Chrysler 300C Hemi, Toyota Avalon.

I have lots of experience with the Town Car, among the safest and most reliable cars on the road and they will literally last as long as you want to drive them if you take care of them. Very luxurious and nice, but they can be boring and it ain't no Benz or Lexus, but for the money, the Town Car is hard to beat bc you can get a DEAL on a used one.

Pesonally cost no object I'd get the S500, I just like it better overall than any sedan on the market.

The Chrysler 300C is the most sedan for the money I've seen in years, for the money very hard to beat and with the Hemi is faster than any I've mentioned except MAYBE the Benz.

The Avalon is a great car in its own right as well but like the Town Car, it ain't no Benz or Lexus.

Buy what you like but at least test drive the ones I've mentioned :D

Well, have you bought that new car yet???
Yes, I did it yesterday. I got a new Lexus LS 430 in "Moonlight Pearl" (off white) which arrives on the dealers lot 7/26.

I learned a lot about buying cars in today's internet world and will post

Mine looks just like the pics and 8,000 miles in I am very happy with it. Hard to argue with this vehicle.

Wife just bought a Lexus RX. It's the first Lexus I've ever owned and only the second one I've ever ridden in. Nothing really good or bad to report so far, other than Wife really loves it.

One thing I do know, Lexus was rated #1 on the 2005 JD Powers quality studies, both on the Initial Quality study and the three-year survey (2005 results of 2002 models). Lexus also rates high on the APEAL, a survey of which vehicles are best-liked by their owners.

Lincoln, Cadillac, and Buick were also highly rated on the quality surveys.

Personally, if I were buying a Lexus for my own personal use, and unlimited budget, I'd go for the SC. Man those are sweet!!

Happy shopping,
Bob

Don't buy one.

It's a hideously expensive, gas-guzzling, planet-shagging status symbol.

Leave your grandchildren some air to breathe and buy a smaller, more sensible car. Even if you do get a Lexus, your neighbours will raise the bar next year and you'll beggar yourself all over again.

Escape the treadmill.

Nice try, but I don't think someone with the title "Petroleum Engineer" will be swayed by the environment angle. :D

MY thoughts exactly!!! CONGRATULATIONS on the car!!!! Life is too short to NOT drive what you want.

Many of todays modern cars, especially the Japanese ones, are very efficient and produce very low emmissions. My Acura gets 27/33 MPG (disclaimer, it is specially modified) and the last emmissions test had to be done twice because it was "too low" the first time and they thought their machine might be broken. I've actually found it horribly ironic to talk to a "tree hugger" who drove a 26 year old VW that output more pollution than 10 hummers due to it's older design and lack of proper maintenence who attempted to lambast me for driving a modified "rice rocket". Unfortunately for him I had my papers with me proving my emmissions! :-)

Congratulations on your new car. Lexus (Toyota) builds an excellent vehicle.
