Talk me out of the D2 Paramilitary

I just picked up a S30V Paramilitary and it immediately became my EDC knife. I read article after article about the D2 version and how I should get one before they are gone. The reason I started with the S30V version is that I do a lot of hunting and fishing so the knife will get wet often. We also get our fair share of rain and snow here in Michigan. I am also the type that just wants to swipe the knife across my jeans after use, fold in up, and slide it back into my pocket. If I do this with D2 I fear it will show rust/pitting on the blade. Is it ok not to get the D2, or will I kick myself later?

d2 is barely not stainless. i wouldn't be too worried about rust.

they are on closeout at the spyderco site. i say get it.

If you already have the s30v I don't know why you'd buy another one. If you're a collector then yeah get it while it's here, but otherwise just use yours.

With routine care, I have never had any rust problems with my D2 Para. Buy it now, or cry later.

The Para in D-2 is a gem. I have abused mine and only the slightest staining is on the blade. This is one of the best knives I own.

I have both the Para and the Millie in CPM-D2, and I like the Para a bit more because of the compression lock and also because it fits in most pockets. I think it is easier to sharpen than the S30V version, plus it is a sprint run and will become a collectible (a D2 Millie sold for 224$ on eBay last week!). Just take some precautions when using in a humid environment, like wiping with Tuf-Cloth after use and before storage.

It is a great design with a great lock in an excellent steel. CPM-D2 gets sharper with better edge retention than S30V for me, it truly is an excellent steel.

I had one. It showed rust the first day I carried it. I sold it and bought a S30V version and it's great.

The difference in edgeholding, tuffness, etc between D2 and S30V in a 3" blade knife is not something you will notice. The fact that the D2 will rust more than the S30V in the type of use and knife care that you describe is noticable.

That's my take anyway...

If you already have S30V, you dont need the D2. That being said I have the D2 and like it quite a bit. To me it seems to hold an edge very close to the S30V. I clean and oil mine, but I work it outside in the elements sometimes. It might get a small spot of rust, but it wipes right off. Never got any rust that just stuck. I say if the price doesn't hurt you, go head and get it.

I have one in D2 and love it. I reprofiled the scales since it never really sat right in my hand but now it's great. Properly heat-treated, D2 will outlast S30V, at least it has in my knives.

Get the D2 I use WD 40 and the blade has stayed shiny and also has stayed sharp and it is super smooth to open and close and it is so comfortable to hold and it does stick out of the pocket a little bit more than some other knives but that is the only thing that I have to say bad about the knife but saying that I also have to say that it is my favorite knife to carry and use.

Mine has been no problem at all and I just wipe it on my jeans and put it back it my pocket except for this one time...
