Talk of a Wee blade, the story unfolds

114.2% of the votes are in

What's next? I was told - no sword swallower's blades
Still - can I pout? Why not a full 3" cutting edge? Just asking. ;)

Because it's a "wee blade." ;)
Small fixed blades are excellent and versatile collection pieces, and EDC better than "swords."

Wow the vote is a tie o_O
Looks like a few others would like to have a wee blade...

I'll shoot for something right in the middle, or whatever the eye likes.

Handle shape?
Center barrel?
Extended guard?
Throw out ideas and examples and I'll work some things up.

John I trust your design eye without qualifiers. Otherwise I would bale on this one. I can't quite picture a real shorty bullnose not losing the form amidst the short.

Length matters.
After all! :)

Handle shape? I really like these. A bit of curve in the length - slight swell at the cap. Might only stand a bit of flare at the minimalist guard.

As far as that goes I like everything about these and greatly favor the subdued but complimentary treatment of colors and materials. I really do not like ribbon candy handles.

Though I could go for some exceptional stag, if you ever work with that and have some available. Hard to beat your stacked leather though.

Center barrel? Do you mean a swell in the girth? If so - my preference is NO.

Extended guard? Small knife such as this?? I defer to you. Maybe enough just to flare the guard and have it be proud by only about 1/8"

Throw out ideas and examples and I'll work some things up.

Click to expand - I embedded my reply in your text John. Thanks for asking.

Leaving this to the designer's eye and talent.

I think I got this to 3.5 OA with blade around 3" and no guard, obviously.

Ray, I love you my friend, but stick to furniture!;)

I do understand the want for a straight edge, but one thing to think about is this is a Wee every day carry.

Which to me means:
You barely notice it on your belt
Can give a quick sharpen on your car window Open a package
Mack can spread some peanut butter
Cut a steak
Dig out a splinter
Ward off Hogzillas and packs of feral dogs
Things like that.

The same things a folder can do, but with better control and way more comfort.

I admit without reservation that I am out of my league and so likely full of :poop: in this regard.

My thinking is that the bullnose profile doesn't lend itself to such a small EDC multipurpose knife. Drop point does that perfectly. I can't visualize it - in any case. BUT - having said, that I trust John that you are right on it. Will be fascinating to see what develops.

And - to be fair I'm home sick with a fever and everything :( so likely delusional too  - at least in regards to the potential of the diminutive bullnose. Still - dig out splinters - really

:) Ray

Good rendition of an athletic sock though - don't 'cha think ;)

Just read this on another post - regarding BF and some of its sub forums - "This is a special little place on the internet, unlike any other. We don't judge here, we support, and care for another without reservation."

Please keep that in mind when you reply. :D

Ray, this a butthurt free zone!:D We've got to be honest with each other to get the best end result. Now kick that fever and get feeling better!

Get to feeling better, Ray! No fun being home illin'!

Ran across this while browsing, don't know if any aspects of it lend to any inspiration...

Trying to multipass, workin on this sheath and sketching things up. I don't like to use graph paper for sketching anymore, but had some out for making the sheath pattern.

Nickel silver end cap, micarta to bolster it. Stacked leather, with blackwood up front, Nickel Silver guard. Peened tang in typical Redmeadow fashion. That would be a lightweight little user right there I think.

Options might be, micarta (rear spacer) color and type of wood by the guard. Rough sketch.

I like your version John I was worried about the tip but that has a good point to it. I think that leather and Micarta would look good together.

^ Yes.

Every day.

And twice on Sunday.
Right? I think we may have a winner here.

I had the same concern with bullnose, but I gave it a bit more of a working point and slimmed things out a bit.
