Talk to me about Knives and Pocket Organizers

I usually carry either a medium-large pocket knife clipped into my pants pocket or a smaller knife in my shirt pocket. A friend asked me to help him figure out some EDC options and can't show clip at work. After some deliberation, we got wondering about pocket caddies or organizers. You know, those things that sit inside your pocket and keep a few items neat, organized, and oriented properly.

I have limited experience with these. I'm guessing they work better with small-medium knives. So help me out. What are some good pocket organizers? What are some good knife combinations with them? If you rock something like this for your EDC, let's see it!

I got this one a few years ago. Made by Allegory Leather , sold through Massdrop.
It has a zipper compartment to hold a wallet or other things.

I got the unzippered version, because I have a couple pairs of pants that love to dump everything loose out of the pocket if I'm relaxing on the couch or driving and I got tired of digging my car keys out from the crack between the seat and console. It works great for me, and if I'm traveling light I'll often just toss my license, bank card and a couple bills in it and use it as a wallet, too.

Is there a way to contact Allegory Leather other through Massdrop; which is a hassle.
I would like to get them to make something similar but without the elastic material using something more durable like maybe firehose or equivalent.
Their photos of products appeals to me - just have never used massdrop - even though I've tried several times - always seems to be a hassle.

I've made my own as well as purchased some. The Maxpedition 0259 can fit in a back pocket but Maxpedition makes smaller ones too.

I don't carry one. They look too big and bulky for my personal taste.

Two names to look into are Skinth and Hitch & Timber

Also, "Best Damn EDC" channel on youtube. He likes leather pocket organizers.

Maxpedition is the first thing that came to my mind.

If your friend can’t have a pocket clip showing, what about a Nylon sheath? Something that rides horizontal on the belt is not really very noticeable. I have one from Benchmade that has worked quite nicely with my Griptilian.

I've been using a maxpedition micro pocket organizer for the past few months and I quite like it.

For me to" Stuff " goes in inside, and then my traditional pocket knife of the week goes in the mesh front pocket.

Designed for your knife to go on the inside, and it should hold it just fine if you don't mind removing then opening it to access your knife.

No clue what the options would be for a modern folder.

Thanks for the responses so far. Pocket organizers are pretty diverse, from the larger ones pictured here to the little Arc Company Quickdraw I use. (It has two open slots. I use it for a Bic lighter and a Gerber Dime.) That's the style we're thinking about here, as opposed to a closed mini pack.

I'm heading over to Maxpedition's web site now. I'm especially interested in the knives people run with their pocket caddies or quick access organizers. I hope to see more posts on this.

Addressing specific comments:

This is a good idea but my friend carries a firearm IWB and doesn't want anything else mounted on his belt.

How about you get your buddy a fanny pack.

As convenient as these can be, they are often the butt of jokes. In the kinds of office environments where clips are frowned upon, a fanny pack can go over like a sore thumb.

If you Bing "pocket organizer knife" you will be on your way.

Why would I bother with a search engine when I have an entry-level paid membership and access to the web's best experts right here?

Thanks again!

Not sure how a bigger modern folder would work in this particular rig. The pen comes just as handy as the knife. Good day

I run a Victorinox Pioneer in one rig along with a 18650 flashlight and a Gerber multi-tool. I am considering a different knife in this one. Maybe a Griptilian or a RAT 1.

Another has a Victorinox Mechanic with a AA flashlight.

A third one is in the planning stage to organize my bug out bag.

I went to look over Hitch and Timber's website but they are temporarily closed.

Another question has come up. How about caddies that'll hold a spare magazine plus a knife, flashlight, or both?

Now I'm all interested in new set-ups. I feel like I'm about to fall down another rabbit hole here!

It’s been done but, I have never seen it done well and still carried in a pocket.

I have made a few of these. I generally carry a lot of junk in my pockets. I'm used to it.

What I use a pocket organizer for evenings out with my wife. It carries my CRK, a couple of cards/ID and that's about it. I have another I made that does the same thing but also holsters a small .380 or .22 magnum revolver.

I dont like them for edc, but when I need to scale back for a few hours, they work out well.

If you are a do-it-yourselfer I recommend trying to make your own. When I made my first leather organizer I bought some leather at Michaels crafts for a few bucks. I made a two-pocket organizer that holds a knife and a small flashlight. I still use it from time to time. Since then, I've taken to getting my leather from a free source. My wife was throwing away an old purse. I decided to take it apart at the seams and I saved all the bigger pieces. I've made many cases from that leather. I've also taken apart an old pair of my shoes. I now have a fairly large assortment of various sized pieces of leather. When I decide I need an organizer or case I go through the pieces until I find something that works. I've made about a dozen different configurations that I use for different carrying scenarios.

How the heck do you fit that in your pocket?
