Talonite not all its cracked up to be?

That sounds pretty out there.
Maybe if there was a flaw in the talonite?
This could happen. I have never heard of anything like it.
The other way would be to pry with the blade. It would take a pretty serious situation to make a blade break in two?
Most often this is done in a destructive test.
But this could be done with any blade.
Anything thing can be taken to destruction if you have the will to do just that?

I got your email and return the answer!

Just one question....Does Talonite and Stellite 6K even require a heat treat, as was mentioned earlier in the thread?

I thought it did not.

I just cant quite buy the story from the salesman. You can bet Camillus would be getting those knives back, and as Will has said they havent seen them. Like Darrell says, it COULD happen. Talonite will take a bend well before it breaks.

Of all the Talonite knives I have made I have exactly ONE come back with bad damage to the edge. I have never heard of a broken blade.

Neither can I, but I just don't understand why he didn't try and sell it to me...I figure they would make money no matter what they sold...

I'm pretty sure you don't heat treat talonite. But I'd appreciate it if someone would correct me if I'm wrong.

The salesman story is IMO total BS. I bought one of the first Talons available more than 2 years ago, used it almost every day since then and have not had any problems. Then I bought 2 more Talonite knives and both are excellent. I do not know what was his problem but IMO he WAS not telling the truth....

I would suspect that the fellow at the knife store was a total ignoramous, and was thinking of a CERAMIC blade, and just messed it up in his head. There's been only a few stores where I had any confidence at all in the employees, and some were just downright ignorant.

Sorry for not seeing the heat treat question earlier.

Talonite/Stellite require no heat treat, Talonite is age hardened at the factory, and I believe Kit told me Stellite is age hardened now as well.

I wonder if Daniel is on to something here. Seems like I have been seeing ceramic bladed Bokers for sale all over the place. Has Boker just dumped a bunch of these on the market lately? It would certaintly explain the blade snapping in half. Like Daniel some of these employees don't always know what they are talking about, and not just the ones that work in knife stores either! :)
