Have any of you swordsmen out there had an opportunity to test cut with one of these? I've heard nothing to date from independant sources as to how well such blades stand up to tameshigiri.

TIA,

I've not had one in my hands long enough to cut with it, but I have heard reports from people who have done tameshigiri with them and they are pleased with the results. The advantage with the newer models is that the steel is much more consistent. This will result in more consistent quality and ability of their blades IMO. Of course there will be varying degrees of quality sometimes, sometimes yakiire just doesn't like to cooperate (even with the best of makers occasionally)...but hey, it happens.

From what I gathered, they work pretty good for their respective price range. Not masterpieces by any means, but for what you're paying for, you're getting something good.

Robert,

Thank you! That is exactly the kind of feedback that I was interested in. It seemed to me that the Swedish manufacturing process would yield a good sword steel, since it is very similar to the method that CPM uses, but I just hadn't heard anything further on how these kats actually perform in tameshigiri.

If and when you personally have a chance to put one of these kats through its paces, please let me(us) know how it performs and holds up.

One of my fellow classmates , just two days ago, used his new Chen sword and was able to cut two rolls without any damage or bending of the blade. There was some resultant marring of the blade, but that was expected from the grade of polish. The tsuka held without incident.

DrRMJ,

Greetings! Are you a fellow physician? Thank you for the eye witness report

. It never fails to amaze me how quickly one can get one's questions answered on these forums.
