Tan Batac Rough Bluegunned

Did the tan micarta take on some of the blue too?

No, it's the linseed oil that's beggining to dry. I have to put several coats.

You will notice that the GunBlue works also on pure INFI (blade bevels), and not only on the decarb part.

I have used two old oils (W40 and linseed oil) and the tan micarta looks like a kind of nice purple now.

Pretty cool it will probably help to protect the steel somewhat, but I'm not sure Infi needs it. Although it will help with the blade shine/reflection in sunlight.

seems like a cool idea...i might try it on my S5LE for aesthetics...INFI doesnt really need it but i like that it would reduce reflection, plus itll just look cool!

Decarburized INFI needs a protection : oil, grease, paint, gunblue, etc.
Or good luck with rust if you use a stripped Busse outside your home...

I think there is some confusion regarding decarburization here. The comp finish blades had decarb left on the blade, which would normally be ground off. It's a product of HT, and means exactly what it sounds like. It's essentially decreasing the carbon content in the metal. When Busse made the comp finish knives, they left the decarb on the blade to cut costs. When you strip a busse, that is not decarb under the coating. How do I know this? I've stripped almost every Busse and used them after with NO rust, and we're talking heavy use in the snow. After I beat them for a while, I grind off the darker INFI and give it a ghetto satin. The rough finish on naked infi fresh out of a stripper bath has never rusted on me, the decarb on a comp finish blade, I could put a little water on and watch it rust right before my eyes.

I never oil any INFI, in fact, I never oil any knife, carbon or not. The infi doesn't rust on me though, even though under the right circumstances, it can rust. The same could be said about any knife steel though, with spydercos H1 being the exception.

Maybe. Does anyone can confirm?

My stripped SARsquatcd tend tu rust without any protection.

?????? never had rust issues with my stripped infi. I went swimming several times with my SS, and GW, and just left them in the sheaths wet for hours at a time. No issues. Even with a Dip in a pool with chlorine and hours later remembered that the knife was still wet in the sheath. NO problems.

Stripped from a coated blade or the competition finish (almost looks satin, but not as it still has decarb and dimples)?

My comp finish sarsquatch would rust until I ground off the decarb.

Stripped from a coated blade, and the steel has black decarb and dimples like with a competition finish.

That's odd, I never had a chemically stripped knife rust like the comp finish sar Q.

There's what it looked like after the finish was partially stripped. It was very dark, almost black, much different than the comp finish sar. The bare metal didn't rust, nor did it after being ground.
