Got my first Busse the Tank Buster and WOW it's every bit as good as I'd heard. If I had the money I'd order several of them!!!

However after splitting some very dry wood halves I noticed the crackle power coating Flaking off....

Is this normal?

Got pix? Close up shots to see what you are talking about would help a lot before saying yes or no.

I'll get some pics up tonight...

It's just strange, looks like it's starting to come off in chunks at the tip.
I havn't abused the knife at all...?

If it turns out to be a manufacturer's defect (problem during the coating process), Busse will make it right. But, I can't speculate as to the problem without seeing it, so you may just want to call Busse Combat @ 419.923.6471 tomorrow and explain your situation to them. They will take care of you if this isn't supposed to happen.

If it really bothers you go ahead and send it back, Busse will make it right for you. As a user though, I'd elect to just keep using it. Even with a perfect coating, you will see signifigant wear once it's been used for a while.

I LOVE THIS KNIFE !!!
LOL, (my wife gets jealous) :)
It's probably the most perfect knife EVER... TRULY !
If this is normal? Then I'll just keep it and wait until the coating all comes off and refinish it or just polish the bare metal. not a big deal.

However, if Busse says that it shouldn't be happening then i'll send id back.
Just let me know.
Thanks a ton.

ive had a few swamp rats do that and a busse or two.if your going to use the knife and it doesnt bother you too much id just keep it and use it some more.its going to loose some more coating anyway..

Sooooooo if the coating flakes off of a blade, can I send it in for a warranty repair and have you put a different coating on it? Say, one that has seemed to be very durable in my own experience??? And if it also happens to be an awesome color, well that's just icing on the cake, right?

:D :D :D

In all seriousness, I've chipped coatings and I've worn coatings - seems like pretty much par for the course to me. I will say that the coatings on my Busse family blades have seemed to hold up better than some cheaper knives I own, and the only places I've really seen wear-through showing up consistently is at the plunge line on saber ground knives. I've been impressed with the durability of the Bama Clay coating on my NMSFNO, but that's a convex grind, so I'm curious to see how the B.C. on my FSH, with a saber grind, will wear once I make a sheath for it and take it out for some beatings.

Same type of flaking happened on a section of my Skinny ASH the first time I used it hard - just figured it was normal for the non-smooth coats... No intention of sending it in - it will all be gone eventually :D

Tip flaking is more normal, especially if you stab it into wood, or baton. I have chips like a bit like that on my Ash1, but honestly it took a bit of chopping, battoning and .........throwing it before i lost that much coating, and I have to say that it did not really come off in big chips. Just a smaller chip on the tip, which is pretty normal for most coated knives. Tip looses the coating fastest.

That would not be worth me sending mine back in at all, as I really expect my coating to get really worn, then I will just strip them anyway.

The whole time I was looking at those pics, I was thinking "Man, that's a good looking tip."

I'm hopeless.

I dunno... That looks like intentional knife abuse to me!;);):D (joke)

Yeah, I think Busse will take care of this. They want you happy with your purchase. Others are right about the tip and how the coating will wear away there first, but this looks to be something a little more...

I have had this happen to me only one time on a BATAC CG (Urban Grey), and although I did let Busse know about it and they did ask me to send it in, I told Amy that this wouldn't be necessary because I had planned to strip this BATAC down the line even before I noticed that a large(ish) chunk of coating had come off one side at the tip, so there was really no need for a re-coating. Hopefully, the rest will come off all that much easier with paint stripper once I decide to take the coating off of the blade. :)

Bro if your gonna use it, then don't sweat it just use it. It does look a bit unusual but its going to get scuffed up anyway with hard use. Mine are Satin so I'll deal with some scratches but that comes with using. I love my TBs and congrats on yours!! Lets Drink!!
