This little puppy is my 2nd Tanto, and I am less than trilled to sell it. I want to keep it!!!! Aaaargh! It will go to a good home, no doubt, and be loved by it's new owner. Made from W-2 tool steel, this knife sports a traditional "zero" edge, as the main bevels actually form the edge apex. No secondary edge has been applied. Well, in full transparency, I did use a ceramic honing rod (~1200 grit) on the apex just to make sure the edge had a clean sharp apex from plunge to tip, so it technically has a micro micro bevel! You may have seen videos of knives cutting thru phone books, I tried it before using the ceramic rod and it went thru a thin, northern San Antonio phone book easily (that was the only phone book I had available. people still have phone books?). No secondary edge....just the geometry making the cut. Is that a pun? If it is, it was so bad I can't tell. The handle is traditional ivory samekawa ray skin, with tsuka ito diamond pattern wrap. The guard, of course, is a Turks Head Knot. I wonder why it has that name? I hope someone didn't have to lose their head over a knot. That would be quite unfortunate. All secured in place with epoxy, so it won't unravel on you when you're using it. What are these knives used for, anyway? Hara Kiri? Oh my. Lose your guts, lose your cranium..yikes! At least the pretty diamonds won't come undone when they get blood all over them. Please don't use this for Hara Kiri. It is carbon steel, after all, and you won't be around to wipe the blood off. Then you'll have a bunch of rust and pitting on the blade. Maybe you could talk your kaishakunin into doing that for you, before you lose your head, of course. Knife is not warrantied for seppuku. The hamon is simple, but elegant. Satanite was used during the hardening to create the differential hardening line, vinegar and lemon hybrid etch. The knife also sports a crowned spine! My thoughts on the sheath...I plan on doing kydex, although it isn't traditional. For me, leather just wouldn't go, and a wooden saya wouldn't work due to the lack of a habaki to secure it. So kydex it is. I'm open to thoughts, especially from the buyer. Balance point is between the 1st and 2nd diamond.
