Tanto AFCK???

Hey all. Today I was in downtown Portland (OR), and stopped by a knife store--they were closed, but had the usual display of knives in the window, including one that caught my eye, it appeared to be a tanto bladed AFCK (full-size). The blade said "Prototype 1 of 135, Spring 1998" and the little price sticker labeled it as an 800BT. Anyone seen any other of these? I guess Benchmade decided not to make them? I must say, it looked pretty ugly, but taste varies.
Kind of interesting, maybe it was canned due to fear of competing with the Stryker?
Just thought I'd pass it on, does anyone know anything more about it?

I think that was a design Benchmade was making for HK. I could be wrong.

Heckler & Koch, german firearms maker.

I wasn't that interested in that or the emerson HK knife until I got a USP. Now i'm thinking about tracking one down.

The new Boker HK knives don't do anything for me.. Ugh.

There's also one of those tanto AFCK's on ebay right now. Too bad the seller didn't include a picture, beccause I'm kind of intrested in what it looks like.

jbroome: thanks--I've never been much into guns so I didn't make the connection...Hong Kong really didn't seem right though

UW Mitch: I'm not really interested in one of them, but the seller at Ebay did say he'll send pix if you e-mail him. I'm curious to see what it gets up to, the one in the store was $135 (but so were all the full-size BT AFCK's they had in the window).

I realized it would be helpful to post the seller's e-mail address: fnxrising@earthlink.net.

I saw a photo of one a while back.
Not, really, enamored......blade was nice and so was the handle. They just don't go together, IMO.
The best looking production folding (American ) tantos are the Emerson and Benchmade/Emerson....
Always wanted one but I just couldn't stomach the b/s that goes with the blade grind .
Just one opinion, of course.

brian: I know what you mean, the two really didn't seem to "flow" together. I'll take issues with the CQC7 tanto (in its BM & Emerson forms) being the best looking, though--I really like the full-size Stryker's design (plus you have the choice of chisel or double ground blaes), and (noting you did say folding, but making an exception) the Boker Specialist Tanto is a pretty nice piece as well.

vikram, what do you know.. the tanto afck on ebay is ALSO numbered 1/135 and the location of the seller is Seattle.. EIther my geography isn't good (which it isn't) or somethign fishy is going on.. not like it matters since it is still a nice little collector's piece.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think on all of Benchmade's limited runs, the numbering isn't serialized, i.e. they all say "1 of 135"--this only indicates their exclusiveness, not their place in the production run.
I suspect the Portland dealers around here probably get a lot of the little trinkets that filter their way up from Oregon City, though (15 minute drive), so I'm gonna have to keep my eyes posted--anyone heard any rumors of M2 Axis's? <never hurts to dream>

Vikram

the Stryker is pretty nice......come to think of it, I might prefer it to the Emerson with or without the double grind

I have a pic I got from the internet quite some time ago, and it is now resting in my small library on my hard drive. I could send it to someone to post it? I don't like the knife but as a collector it is interesting.

Hmmm.... that works for me (the picture, and the knife). I kinda wish BM had followed through on that one. Especially if it was in M2!

It just a ****ing staple!!
Guess who...

I saw the tanto AFCK today at Beck's Cutlery Speciaties(beckscutlery@mindspring.com). Its not the one they made for HK, its a limited edition piece for NICA(National Independent Cutlery Association). NICA stores are the only places you can get them. Others in the NICA group are the tanto Sebenza, and the Gil Hibben knife.(Which also sit at Beck's)
Since there is only 135 of them I didn't think a tanto AFCK looked that bad at all.

I don't know what knives any of you are looking for, but I'd email Beck's and ask them if they have it. They have some great stuff there.

It's kind of weird, the picture was there yesterday but it's gone now. Mr. Blonde, can you maybe edit the above post and try re-linking/inserting it?
Thanks for posting it, btw.

Sorry, my mistake. I was cleaning up my geocities account and by mistake I deleted that pic, so it's no surprise it wouldn't work. It is my first pic in a forums post you see?
