Hi all! So I'm currently looking to add a tanto blade to my collection and am just curious to see what people recommend. Here's some of my conditions

- under $250
- I'm looking for a folder but if you have a fixed blade in mind I'd be interested to hear about it
- you have to swear to pronounce tanto ( tawn-toe ) not ( tan-toe ) as it should be :)

Thx,

My favorites have been the cold steel recon 1 tanto and the Microtech Socom Elite Tanto.

The recon 1 is especially impressive because of the hollow ground belly paired with the stout, flat ground tip. Very functional in my experience.

I heard they were releasing a Para 2 tanto at blade show, Emerson is always up there.
Cold Steel has almost every model with a tanto blade tri ad lock

Cold steel for production, Pieter Swanepoel for handmade.

Oh ya! I almost forgot about the para 2 tanto ( that kinda fun to say :) )

I'm anxious to see how that turns out.

Im a sucker for the hollow grinds.

I think they look especially good on tanto blades.

Any idea what size blade you are looking for? Any idea what the use profile will be? (Edc, heavy duty work cutting, just a sexy knife you look at sometimes?)

the use profile is that it is going to get put in my collection and maybe cut some stuff every now and then ( boxes etc. ) so I'm not gonna be to picky about blade size and use. Just want a tanto to add to the collection since the only one I have at the moment is a CRKT m-14le.

So I guess this falls under (just a sexy knife you look at sometimes). :)

Benchmade bailout :D
I love my bugout so I looked at the bailout but I just didn't do it for me. I don't understand why they'd use a hard use outdoor fixed blade steel like 3v and put it on a knife that is more of a lightweight edc.

Plus the grivory doesn't really do it for me anymore.

Personally some of my favourite tantos are Emerson cqc7s. I don’t know how you feel about Emersons but they tend to be my first choice for tanto folders. I also highly recommend the now discontinued ZT 620 if you can find one.

I was really impressed by the Bestech titanium Kendo I got to play with recently.

I don’t know if you can scare one up but the Spyderco Lum tantos are quite nice knives. If that para 2 tanto ever comes out the one Eric previewed had a Lum style tanto grind.

I highly recommend you just cruise the for sale section of this forum and see what tantos you can find for below 250$.
